Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the ranking member of the panel. In the letter, Schiff highlighted questions that will be used to determine whether a witness’s testimony is pertinent. Those questions include whether President Donald Trump: Requested “that a foreign leader and government initiate investigations to benefit the president’s personal interests.” Sought to use his office “to apply pressure on the head of state and government of Ukraine to advance the President’s personal political interests.” Looked to obstruct or cover up any evidence regarding his actions. [link to www.newsmax.com (secure)] Personal----wouldn't the goals be the interest of our nation and not the president? Yes I believe they would/should. The complication comes perhaps because there were 2 channels of 'diplomacy' working simultaneously in Ukraine and it's Rudy's channel that ties itself to Trump and personal matters rather than official State business. That's pretty much by definition with Rudy being Trump's personal lawyer. It will be interesting to hear Pompeo, Mulvaney and Bolton on these matters. Bolton's already said the call was going to be a disaster and that he wanted no part of Rudy's 'drug deal' - strong indications that he knew Rudy was running an unofficial diplomatic channel. Otherwise I think the President and his defense team have an easier go. |
