Iowa convicted killer claims he served life sentence after he died, and then revived
An Iowa judge on Wednesday rejected an appeal from a convicted murderer who argued that because he suffered a medical emergency in 2015—and died momentarily—he therefore already completed his life-sentence and since then has been unjustly held behind bars over the past four years.

Benjamin Schreiber, 66, was rushed from the Iowa State Penitentiary to the hospital in 2015 after large kidney stones caused him to develop septic poisoning, according to court records. Schreiber – who had been convicted of first-degree murder in 1997 and sentenced to life without parole – was unconscious by the time he arrived to the hospital, the Des Moines Register reported.

He had signed a "do not resuscitate" order years earlier. Hospital staff also called his brother in Texas who told them "if he is in pain, you may give him something to ease the pain, but otherwise you are to let him pass," court documents said

They don't really care whether the truth gets out, because the public no longer knows what's meant by "the truth."

Well, I mean, no one can tell the difference anymore between what's real and what's fake.

Anyway, the point is, I can tell you all of this, right out in the open, because it doesn't matter who knows about it. They won't know whether to believe it or not.-

Doctors instead administered resuscitation fluids through an IV and performed life-saving surgery to repair the damage caused by the kidney stones.

I wonder how much they will be paid for their services.

Neither court addressed Schreiber’s additional claim that his due process rights were violated when doctors ignored his “do not resuscitate” order, the Register reported.

He should have made the DNR the main argument.

I don't think there is a legal right to prolong a prisoners life just to keep him incarcerated.

If he made the decision to DNR, and they chose to do it anyway, i'm starting to think this is Cruel and unusual punishment.

No.. you can't die, you're going back to prison.

The scum was convicted of first degree murder....murder with malice and forethought.

I imagine that his victim plead for their life as he was about to murder them in cold blood. Where was his concern for their 'right to life'?

Simple as that. He has a second life.

Funny how the average Joe gets convicted by the letter of the law but now all of a sudden the spirit of the law is called into question.
Seems we have a compromised justice system that's unfair to all poor people.
Time the legal lawyer games ended.
