I would walk out the door with my 20ga. tactical shot gun in my hand. That is plenty to eliminate any close in threat, and intimidate most people close enough to hear it. I never leave the house without a side arm. I would not walk into a crowd with my little daily carry piece though. It would probably be a Springfield XDM .40 or .45. On my back would be an AR15 carbine with laser and extra 30 round magazines.

If I thought I could scare them off, I might just walk out with an AK47 with a drum. Very intimidating, and effective at really close range.

I would not take any big bore rifle out to a street fight. The .30 cal. rounds are no more effective at close range than the lighter ones, but produce a lot more collateral damage. If they are far enough away to need the big guns, it's probably not self defense. Save the big ones for the deer and elk.

Not to mention...

unless you have a closet dedicated to storing crates of 10mm ammo, and plan to never need to leave your home for any reason, when you run out, you won't find any laying around for miles and miles to replenish.

10mm is overkill, when 45 and even 357 is close enough and will be found everywhere.

This is true. The bullets from pistols fly anywhere from 800-1450 feet per second. This is why they can tell which gun it was fired from. (Barrel signature) A rifle round travels 2500-3300 feet per second. (exceptions of course) Due to the speed they cannot be matched to barrel signature. Instead they use caliber and ammunition lot numbers to match up to the shooter with his un-shot ammunition comparison. You folks need to think of this when civil unrest does occur. Make sure you dig your bullets out or change the barrel used if ever investigated. May not matter but better safe than sorry.

Actually, NO! This is poor advice. If shit goes south, you want to shoot BEFORE someone gets into effective pistol range. In fact, I imagine that for most people, effective pistol range is POINT BLANK. Not a safe place to be.

With a rifle, your odds are better at hitting your target, especially if you don't shoot often.

For a shotgun - fuck that. Get a Saiga, Kalashnakov USA, or VEPR. THOSE are good quality shotguns that will outgun almost ALL other shotguns unless they are full auto.

If you don't know about firearms, don't listen to this guy.

For starters, he tells you not to buy an AR 15, something he doesn't own. His experience with the cartridge is a mini-14 that he says is "The least accurate rifle he owns.." whatever.

Instead he tells you to get an M1A, which is as tactical as a boat anchor in comparison. The AR is so far ahead of the M1A dinosaur for "tactical".. (customizing, speed, accuracy, mag size, followup, reloading and price).. everything except bullet size. Woopity do.

Next is the Benelli M4. No doubt a great firearm, but absolutely overpriced, like the M1A, no thanks to "The official shotgun of John Wick and the USMC." Gag me.

As for the Glock 20, great gun, but competitors over the last few years have made Glock basic and overpriced .. There are many alternatives that give different size, look, feel, ergonomics and customizing for less money, like the CZ striker fire among many.
