Three Essential Firearms For Civil Unrest | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 73155992 United States 11/08/2019 10:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm thinking about spending the big bucks and purchasing 2 of these, Not really for civil unrest but sure are purdy Quoting: Jake [link to kilimanjarorifles.com] Nice looking and all. Great caliber choices. But I still consider the rem700 and win70 superior to just about all others. Rem700 is garbage and cheaply made, Action is too loose and sloppy. These guns are $7000 a piece and take a year to make. all hand milled, carved and engraved. Howa 500 is a better bolt gun and very affordable. Japanese made |

Quoting: Malu nli Nice to have assault rifles, sniper rifles, etc, but in the real world it will be a handgun that will actually protect you. I suggest getting good with one This is true. The bullets from pistols fly anywhere from 800-1450 feet per second. This is why they can tell which gun it was fired from. (Barrel signature) A rifle round travels 2500-3300 feet per second. (exceptions of course) Due to the speed they cannot be matched to barrel signature. Instead they use caliber and ammunition lot numbers to match up to the shooter with his un-shot ammunition comparison. You folks need to think of this when civil unrest does occur. Make sure you dig your bullets out or change the barrel used if ever investigated. May not matter but better safe than sorry. |

Rag on 9mm all you like but it is the ammunition you will be most likely to find if TSHTF. Ditto for .22 and 12 ga. Ruger 10/22 is ideal for children and women who are gun shy. This is poor advice. If shit goes south, you want to shoot BEFORE someone gets into effective pistol range. In fact, I imagine that for most people, effective pistol range is POINT BLANK. Not a safe place to be. With a rifle, your odds are better at hitting your target, especially if you don't shoot often. |

UTAS XTR-12 12 Gauge shotgun - 10+1 capacity, and badass. Ruger American 9mm - 9mm is the most common round, and 15+1 capacity is good in a closeup scenario. Bonus: Smith & Wesson SW1911 in .45 ACP. Just because it's badass, and one sweet piece. Anonymous Coward User ID: 76919577 United States 11/08/2019 12:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What a moronic article, all 3 of those recommendations are ugh.. If you don't know about firearms, don't listen to this guy. For starters, he tells you not to buy an AR 15, something he doesn't own. His experience with the cartridge is a mini-14 that he says is "The least accurate rifle he owns.." whatever. Instead he tells you to get an M1A, which is as tactical as a boat anchor in comparison. The AR is so far ahead of the M1A dinosaur for "tactical".. (customizing, speed, accuracy, mag size, followup, reloading and price).. everything except bullet size. Woopity do. Next is the Benelli M4. No doubt a great firearm, but absolutely overpriced, like the M1A, no thanks to "The official shotgun of John Wick and the USMC." Gag me. As for the Glock 20, great gun, but competitors over the last few years have made Glock basic and overpriced .. There are many alternatives that give different size, look, feel, ergonomics and customizing for less money, like the CZ striker fire among many. |

Tactical 12 ga I'd add #4 equally important to the above list: The ability to do your own reloads & a little chemistry knowledge (like knowing how to make smokeless powder in a post-apocalyptic pinch). I have an old school cast iron Herters Super Model 6 press rig w/all the acoutrements. It's not very popular (nor easy to find at gun shows) cuz everyone wants new & shiny, but finding dies is easy peazy (they are everywhere at shows). You know it's old when it's coating is baked-on enamel, but I dig the 50s-60s look (and old or not, it's built better than the newer stuff). |

We know wher you stand. As an aside, since when is an "M1-A" light and maneuverable? This guy knows right around jack and shit about what useful weapons are. Every "essential" firearm should use the cartridge it shoots to the fullest, that is not an 18 inch bbl in 7.62x51. Medium range carbine in .30 cal a good choice is the mini-30, not 14. it does not suffer from the same issues as its little brother. uses a 7.62x39 which is about the most common ammo you are going to find and uses it to its max potential. 7.62x51 should be reserved for bbls in the 20-24 inch range. A hand gun gets you to your long gun. a 4 or 6 inch .357 a .357 20 inch levergun is no joke, iv'e killed some shit dead with one many times. There are many options.. what you don't want is something that makes a lot of noise and flame and loses the effectiveness because it is not using the round.. like a 2 inch .44 magnum.. just stupid. Always have a .22lr rifle and a 12 ga shotgun as well, 3" 00 buck. 10mm.. ya ok, do a battlefield pick-up off of your moving resupply pods for that idiot. fantasy land this guy lives in. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78129627 United States 11/08/2019 12:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Make no mistake about it, folks. Terrorists will hit America again. There is also a serious prospect of either civil war or a Soviet-style breakup of America into nation-states in my lifetime. Indeed, it is exceedingly unlikely that America as we know it will exist when our children reach our age. If you think I am crazy, quit reading this column and return to playing your video games. The rest of the column is for those of us who live and operate in the world as it is but also prepare for drastic changes in our circumstances. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73357484 As we think specifically about which three firearms are best for dealing with large-scale civil unrest, it helps to imagine hypothetical situations. Imagine, for example, that a mob of Antifa “anti-fascists” decided to converge upon your town. In other words, imagine a typical weekend in Portland. Imagine further that the mob moved into your neighborhood and that they crossed your property line. Finally, imagine they were holding Molotov cocktails. Now entertain a question: If you were to come walking out on your front porch to defend your home and family holding one firearm with another strapped to your shoulder and a sidearm, what would those three weapons be? I’ve given this a little thought. Here are my choices: [link to townhall.com (secure)] Just one. A single shot 12 ga. H&R. makes sense... for no one ever involved in a hot situation. I guess if you are sitting high in a tree stand over bait for a foolish buck. useless for anything else. |
