Seriously, they can't drill deep enough and big enough to relieve pressure. Even if they drilled a 100' hole (they can't), it would just let some gases out in that immediate area- the caldera is miles across. And with a caldera like Yellowstone, the magma isn't a liquid that will just squirt out- it's very hot rock just past the plastic temp, and saturated with gases. Why they explode instead of erupting like Hawaii volcanoes.

I am not even remotely sure what the cause of action was to separate the continents billions of years ago. perhaps an expanding earth pulled everything apart? Maybe we gained the moon and it alone changed everything? Or perhaps the earth is in a constant evolution and billions of years from now it will look completely different than today? You decide.
