Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -- For PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 -- Scheduled to be released October, 30th 2007 -- Who's excited!? GTA4!
Somewhat a reply to the Halo 3 thread. The CoD series of FPS games are much better IMHO!

-----------------------------------------------

Gameplay

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will introduce a variety of game play styles into the single player campaign completely new to the Call of Duty series. The game moves away from the standard three country-specific campaign style, and allows the plot the play through more like a film style plot with interlaced story lines from the perspective of the player as a member of the US Force Recon, British S.A.S. and a variety of cameo-style missions where you will play one mission as various other soldiers such as an AC-130 Specter Gunship gunner, or as one part of a two man sniper team behind enemies line in a flashback style mission.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will focus on the variation of Modern warfare as an infantry soldier by allowing the player to control soldiers in a vast amount of different scenarios, straying away from the constant "at eleven" action of previous Call of Duty titles and allowing for both heavy intensity fire fights and slower paced drama styled intensity. The developer, Infinity Ward, has so far shown off a handful of such levels including where the user will play as the gunner of an AC-130 Gunship, the pilot of a Cobra Helicopter providing air support, a marksman part of a two man sniper team, a soldier in the US Force Recon, and a special operations soldier in the British S.A.S..

The series move to Modern warfare has also introduced a variety of new modern weapons and technology to be introduced to the Call of Duty franchise. Such showcased weapons and attachments include M203 Grenade Launchers, IR Laser Pointers for use in conjunction with night vision goggles, and the FGM-148 man-portable anti-tank guided missile among many others.

Multiplayer

Hardcore Mode

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been announced to have a new mode called Hardcore Mode. In multiplayer users can choose to play standard game types such as Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch and others, or choose to play them in Hardcore Mode. In Hardcore mode weapons damage is increased, the heads up display (HUD) is removed, including the mini-map, ammo counter, and other on-screen indicators, as well as Team Damage enabled.

Classes

For multiplayer, it has been confirmed that Call of Duty 4 will include a class system which has five preset classes with default weapon load outs and perks assigned to them as well as allows users to create five custom classes where the user can customize their weapon load out and three perks to assign to their soldier. The five default classes include Assault, Spec Ops, Light Machine Gunner, Demolitions, and Sniper class. Create a class will be unlocked through your first few games after gaining enough Experience Points (XP) and ranking up to your first few ranks. Only two of the classes are available to a first time player; the rest are unlocked as he/she gains more experience online and gains higher rank.

Perks

Another introduction in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer includes Perks. Perks are special abilities which allow users to further customize their character to their personal play style. The amount of perks available in multiplayer has not been announced however it has been confirmed that the player will be limited to three multiplayer perks at a time which can be assigned via Create a Class.

Re: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -- For PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 -- Scheduled to be released October, 30th 2007 -- Who's excited!? GTA4!
Plot

A Russian Nationalist by the name of Zakhaev is set on returning his homeland to the Soviet times. Zakhaev knows the United States would never allow this to happen, thus he funds a coup in the Middle East, organized by his ally Al-Assad, to draw attention away from Russia. The two men and their seconds-in-command gain the nickname The Four Horsemen. However, British and Russian governments have been monitoring Zakhaev's activities and discover his real intentions. The story is told from a perspective of a British SAS operative, a Russian Spetsnaz commando, and American Force Recon Marines and Navy SEALs in the Middle East. Also, the game's E3 2007 trailer shows a nuclear weapon launching, so the game may include radioactive or biological hazards.

Setting

The game's main setting is the Middle East and Eastern Europe.[3] The developers have indicated they may also utilize additional locations, according to Game Informer magazine.[citation needed].

Call of Duty 4 is not set in an existing conflict, according to Grant Collier, one of Infinity Ward's co-leads:
“ We wanted an enemy that is going to give the player a stand up fight. When people hear modern warfare, is that driving in a Humvee until an IED blows your tire off, then people shoot at your Humvee and you shoot back at them and they run away? Strangely enough, that's not Infinity Ward-style combat. So we are creating a robust enemy that is going to give the Western powers a run for their money. They use high technology just like we do. ”

Pre-release marketing

Trailers

The trailer, showing some in-game footage, was released April 28, 2007 [4]. In the background, one may hear a speech given in Russian: [EDIT] The speech translates as "Today, as one nation, we shall rise in the face of treachery and occupation." Additionally, a final voice at the end speaks the Russian translation of a quote by Sun Tzu, author of The Art of War: "Any war is a lie" Also, in Arabic, one hears the statements "Enemy Forces Sighted" and "American Forces Nearby."

Recently a trailer featuring actual gameplay footage was released. In which it shows a combat sequence taking place apparently in Cairo, as it is visible the road sign near the beginning of the trailer points to the Autostrad and the Abbasia Square, both actual locations in Cairo.

Some gaming magazines have been able to play demos from portions of the game, including a stealth mission, a helicopter battle, and driving a tank to a fuel depot.

Xbox 360 public beta

It was announced at Microsoft's E3 2007 press conference that Infinity Ward would offer a Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer Public Beta exclusively on the Xbox 360 [5]. The beta will be available on Xbox Live starting in August 2007 [6] and will be the largest beta available on Xbox Live from a third party to date. [7]

It always amazes me how much historical and current 'truth' is hidden within intelligent pc games and novels...I learned more about WWII from Call of Duty 1-3 than through history books, which are constantly being re-written.

I learned more about the truth of Area 51, ancient civilizations, conspiracies, NWO from pc games such as Drowned Gods, Deus Ex, Freedom Fighters, even the Sam Fisher Splinter Cell series than from well known text books.

It's hilarious...the clues are 'hidden' in plain site.

The people who spend years developing & designing these awesome games also spend a great deal of time studying history, and other things that are required in creating a great game. They at times hire historians, military veterans, etc..

So yes, their work speaks volumes through the finished product. As we play it, we learn what they've spent a great amount of time studying themselves.

Hmm, it definitely is an alternative way of teaching indeed. Basically the teachers (developers & designers) develop a program (game) through which we as students use (play) to learn (win)

Yes I have in regards to the GTA question. Amazing at whats coming, I can't wait.

------------------------------------------------------

Plot

Niko Bellic is Eastern European and in his mid-thirties. He has come to Liberty City to pursue the "American Dream". Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin Roman, who claimed in multiple e-mails to Niko that he was living a fabulous life, with two women, four hot tubs and fifteen sports cars; but he was in fact telling lies to hide his own failures.

Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City to begin with, and is one of his major connections in the first part of the game. Niko is a tough character, whereas Roman is friendly. Roman is heavily in debt and a lot of people are after him. He desperately needs Niko's support, hence the reason he deceived Niko into traveling to Liberty City. They are constantly bickering. It is later revealed that Niko has also been avoiding other, as yet undisclosed, problems at home.

According to Dan Houser, "virtually none" of the characters from the previous games are returning, as a lot of them are dead anyway.[14]

Some Grand Theft Auto IV information:

Locations

Rockstar has recreated four of the five boroughs in New York City, as well as parts of New Jersey. Broker is the GTA IV equivalent of Brooklyn, Manhattan is now called Algonquin (a play on the fact that 'Manhattan' was also the name of a Native American tribe), Queens is now Dukes, the Bronx is Bohan, and New Jersey is Alderney (after the Channel Island of the same name). The total land area of the map is roughly 3/4 of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas [16], but the new rendition of Liberty City will be more detailed. Additionally, according to the Official PlayStation 2 Magazine UK, "to get from one side of the new and improved Liberty City to the other will take you at least an hour." Rockstar has stated that it's the biggest single city in a GTA game yet, and although smaller than San Andreas, it is comparable to it in terms of scope when "the level of verticality of the city, the number of buildings you can go into, and the level of detail in those buildings" are taken into account.[6] Furthermore, developers are still deciding whether bridges will be used to cordon off certain areas, by way of blocking access to cross them.[4] However, eventually the player will be able to lead Niko Bellic to explore Roosevelt Island and cross the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg bridges.

The GTA IV equivalent of the Statue of Liberty is called the "Statue of Happiness", Times Square is called "Star Junction" and DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is known as "BOABO" (Beneath the Offramp of the Algonquin Bridge Overpass).

Another building called "Twitchins", the GTA version of Brooklyn's Domino Sugar Factory, is in the game. Dan Houser has also confirmed that an area resembling Central Park will be in the game.

A Staten Island-esque area will not be featured in the game for the reason that Rockstar believes it would not be fun to play there; Dan Houser also states that that there would not be any "dead spots" or "irrelevant space" within Liberty City such as the wide open deserts in San Andreas.

Pedestrians are much more intelligent, realistic and diverse, using mobile phones, cash machines, eating snacks, drinking soda, reading newspapers, scratching their nose, coughing and interacting with each other through laughter and threatening remarks. Pedestrians and traffic flow will also be different depending on the time of day.

It has been announced that some meetings in the game will take place high in the office buildings of skyscrapers which will subsequently allow Niko to throw people off the buildings. However, Niko won't be able to access all the buildings in the game.

Yes and no.

Marriage and political systems are artificial constructs; you'll be just fine as long as you don't abdicate/betray your unique perception.

And yes, Russia is a power to be reckoned with...they understood the essence of supranormal consciousness ahead of the rest of the planet.

This is why censorship in any form (remember that crazy anti GTA guy?) is not to be tolerated.

nice to meet you.

It looks fancy but don't be fooled

Call of duty is not a "Go anywhere" franchise , all those simultaneous effects and explosions come at a cost of not being able to choose how you want to play the game.

"When scientists cannot explain something on THEIR terms, they will pretend to reduce the phenomenon to something else that they CAN explain, thus creating the illusion that they have given a plausible explanation of some ancient mystery. Don't be duped by their debunking.

Re: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -- For PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 -- Scheduled to be released October, 30th 2007 -- Who's excited!? GTA4!
games have got a long way to go before i get excited.

I used to play BF2 on my 6800 and P4. But got totally sick of it and its faults.

im now on a core 2 duo and X1950XT the games are a little better but not much!!

the games industry needs a new innovation like 3D as in depth. Or some other kind of immersion like touch or smell.

High dynamic range still has a way to go but with new LCD technologies we will start to see screens that like looking out of your window on a sunny day.

in game physics would be good if used properly.

whats needed is something on the order of 1+ TFLOP physics processor, to make life like physics and a noticeable increase over physics such as that in HL2.

I hear the new Nvidia 9800GTX will pull 1 TFLOP.
You would need one for the physics and one for the graphics.

and another major problem. They claim their games are so intense so authentic so realistic like real war.
But you get in the game and you shoot somebody with an RPG and not so much as a finger blows off!
You blast someone at point blank range in the head, and its as if they are constructed from somekind on super indestructible material that just squirts a little blood.

WTF!!! this is not realistic!
bing back the ludicrous gibbs!
