Teachers do work full time! Their contracts normally start at 7:30 a.m. (although many have morning duty before this they do not get paid for). Their contracts end at 3:30 p.m. (and again, many have duties after this they do not get paid for - such as clubs). They get 1/2 hour for lunch, but many of them have to monitor their students, so basically, they are on duty from as early as 7:00 to as late as 4:30, mandatory. Then, they have to go home and grade papers and make up lesson plans. If they are Special Education teachers, you can add in another 130 hours per school year of meetings, IEP-writing, Progress Reporting. These are hours they are not getting paid for. I know a whole lot of teachers who are working 50-60 hour weeks already. They might get extra vacation days, but they do not get paid for those. Yet, they spend a lot of that time working on their rooms, upgrading their educations, and pre-planning. I am kind of thinking, Brief, that you probably would not last a day in today's schools. Why don't you try it? apply as a sub teacher and spend a few days. See what it is like? THEN, pass your judgement.

When I was in school, phones were illegal on school grounds due to up ticks in drug dealing and constant bomb threats. Today, goin by the Google data, kids watch youtube and text message literally all day long at school.
