Does Jesus want me to follow the laws of the Old Testament? Yes or no?
I want to be good. I love Him.
But I want a straight answer, not moral relativism.
Must I follow the laws of the Old Testament? Or do we Christians get to pick and choose what we want to follow?

All I want is clarity not confusion.

Yes or no?

Why dont you read the bible and work it out for yourself?

If you ask mere men...mere answers are all you will ever get.

Ask the Author.

If anyone knows...its Him.

Re: Does Jesus want me to follow the laws of the Old Testament? Yes or no?
The bible was written by men, edited by men. It's not God's holy anything and was not inspired by God at all. It was compiled from word-of-mouth stories which came hundreds of years after Christ was gone. The old testament is the Torah, Jewish books and Jewish law talking about a brutal son-of-a-bitch Jewish god, who, btw, wasn't a "god" at all but an ET from a planet called Jehovah, Jehovah's Witnesses, get it?

The real God would never have a "chosen people". He plays no favorites. Neither would he ever order or demand genocides, wars and bloodshed and live sacrifices to appease him. You can't appease God. He doesn't have an ego that can played too. He loves all equally and without reservation which is something man doesn't do. In short, he doesn't take sides but there are sides and we must choose which side we're on...Light or Dark.

If you want to adhere to the bible, as misguiding as it is, to still serve God, then toss the OT, toss it's murderous grossness.

The New Testament contains much more of Jesus' message of love, brotherhood and the Kingdom of God. But be careful there too as much has been added and ommitted by men with an agenda for religious control instead of spiritual truth and liberation.

And speaking of spiritual liberation...Jesus did not die for your sins. He was just executed by the Pharisees (pretending to be J ews today) because his message of love, brotherhood and the truth of the Kingdom of God was a threat to the religious doctrine of the day (as it still is today. They would crucify him again if they could. That is in fact what easter is really about. Repeated crucifixion every year).

Christ did not, and cannot, take responsibility for free will actions and choices of people that wasn't born yet or wouldn't be born for hundreds and thousands of years afterwards and into eternity as the belief goes. That's just a ridiculous notion. None are responsible for another's free will actions, only their own, and it's no different for God and Jesus. You are not absolved from the affects of your actions and choices. You are responsible for them and will have to account for them and never will it be different. This idea is actually a variation on the idea of Yom Kippur where atonement by one for sins absolves you from responsibility for all future sins. A ridiculous idea. See - [link to www.hebcal.com (secure)] and make the comparison.

In fact, if you want more truth than your bible could ever give you (even if it had to be compromised as well to please the Jewish world masters) the read the sections on Jesus' life in the Urantia book. You'll get much more there than you could imagine and really get to know the real Jesus and the real truth of the Kingdom of God.

Read Leviticus and Deuteronomy and you’ll see that many of the OT laws are illegal now. So you would get arrested and go to prison for following those laws. You already pick and choose which OT laws to follow, same as Jesus did. The answer is clear, Follow the laws of the country you live in, not the laws of the Old Testament.

Rabbi Steve is a fantastic teacher that I have been sitting under for the past 4 years.

So, no, you absolutely do not have to follow OT laws.

There is a messianic movement right now which is trying to convince Christians that they must adhere to Noetic Law.

This is antichrist.

It seeks to erase what Jesus did.

Meanwhile, Jesus did reinforce 9 or the 10 Commandments. Not only did he reinforce them, he upped the spiritual ante.

For example, Jesus said that to look at a woman with lust is committing adultery in your heart; to hate someone is to commit murder in your heart: etc. He took outward sins, actions, and moved them inward, to where they begin, in the spirit.

The only commandment Jesus did not reinforce is the Sabbath, because He became the Sabbath.

We are to walk after and rest in Christ every moment, not just one day a week.

Again, you can see the ante being upped again here.

So, if any Noetic law-pushing "Christian" tries to imprison you back into the old law, tell them they do not at all understand why Jesus came, or what He did.

Matthew 26:17-19

Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?" And He said, "Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is near; I am to keep the Passover at your house with My disciples."'" The disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.

Matthew 5:17-20 King James Version (KJV)

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

That is wonderful that you want to ge "good". What is our role model for such goodness? Indeed, Jesus may serve as such a role model.

As a free-will human being (whether Christian of not), you have the choice of what to follow or not. The Old Testament is certainly not a pleasant thing to follow - it is more like a bloodthirsty account of annanuki history.

The problematic word here is the word FOLLOW. We did not incarnate into this world to follow others but to FOLLOW OUR OWN DIVINE INTUITION, and this can be done through seeking quiet moments, closing your eyes and asking WHAT IS IMPORTANT FOR ME TO KNOW NOW, for example.

Learn to trust YOURSELF in this way as much as possible. The answers you receive will be full of wisdom, as you will see over time, and thus you will be following a "good" path.
