Aboriginal techniques are based in part on fire prevention: ridding the land of fuel, like debris, scrub, undergrowth and certain grasses. The fuel alights easily, which allows for more intense flames that are harder to fight.
The Aboriginal people would set small-scale fires that weren't too intense and clear the land of the extra debris. The smaller intensity fires would lessen the impact on

I was a firey too CP and live on the NSW south coast, which up to the present has been free of bushfires. I did a reconnoitre of fuel loading and it is abysmal and tinder dry. One spark and it's on down here too, we haven't had a firestorm in twenty years but I think that is about to change.

Food Supply for Animals Trapped in Mallacoota Flown in by Planes
January 12, 2020

Aircraft are being used to feed the thousands of hungry wildlife stranded amid the Australian bushfire crisis.

The New South Wales government has started doing food-drops, trickling thousands of kilograms of carrots and sweet potato from above to feed the state’s colonies of brush-trailed rock wallabies.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service commenced ‘Operation Rock Wallaby’ on Saturday to combat the at-risk nature of the state’s marsupial population....

...as part of a New South Wales government initiative to support the wildlife affected by the bushfire crisis
The parks service has spent the past week completing the food drops for rock wallaby colonies in the Capertree and Wolgan valleys, Yengo National Park, the Kangaroo Valley, and around Jenolan, Oxley Wild Rivers and Curracubundi national parks.

In total they have dropped more than 2,200kg of fresh vegetables for the critters.

New South Wales Environment Minister Matt Kean said while the aninmals have managed to flee the fires they’re left without a source of food.

Lightening with rain and more to come.

National Parks are usually places where fire control is not allowed and as a result you get things like the Yellowstone wildfires. Logging should have been going on anyplace in Australia that has many trees.
Looks like Australia has been working to create a big ass disaster, which is what they got. Time for some new management at the highest levels.

Australian 'Megablaze' Brought under Control

Exhausted firefighters said they had finally brought Australia's largest "megablaze" under control Monday, as wet weather promised to deliver much-needed respite for countryside ravaged by bushfires.

New South Wales firefighters said they finally had the upper hand in the fight against the vast Gospers Mountain fire on Sydney's northwestern outskirts, which has been burning out of control for almost three months.

Visiting the area on Monday, New South Wales Rural Fire Service commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said there was a "small area of burning still to complete" but the "containment prognosis looks promising."

The fire seared an area of national park three times the size of Greater London and lit several connected blazes totalling over 800,000 hectares -- an area larger than Austria.

Many people are involved in the battle

At least 3,700 firefighters are on the ground at any one time across the country during the worst periods, according to the country's state fire services. Most are in the worst-hit states of New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria.
