Birmingham AL Waffle House customers help out only staffer - Pay It Fwd type of story

It if would have been me alone, I would have just locked the place up and left. One person cannot run a place like that alone. I guess its because of greedy management. How hard would it be for them to get someone else from another location to help out?

Yeah, I don't know if I could've tackled being the lone person working at WH. Could be franchise owner's being greedy or just poor planning. Or could be just unreliable employees calling in sick or just not showing up at all.

According to Glass Door the positions for that waffle house is minimum wage only.

They blamed it on a scheduling mistake.

That's a go-to lie by corporate. No one ever believes it.

Its all feel good stories till a non employee gets hurt and sues for being allowed into the kitchen

If I hadn't been in a good number of Waffle Houses drunk at 2:00 in the morning plenty of times, I would tend to agree with you, but every one I've ever been in has been well-staffed. WH is a franchise, anyway, so it's local people that are staffing these locations, not corporate, and there's no way they're going to allow something like this, intentionally, during drunk munchie time. That's big business for that location.

But still, the end result does shine a light on the GOOD side of humans who band together to help another in need.

Or the customers just wanted to eat, and decided only way was to help out instead of finding another late night eatery.

Glad to see someone else is like me, having still a shred of hope/faith/belief in our species!

I have a store manager I talk with on discord a lot. She's a mgr for Perkins that I visit sometimes. She says corporate forces managers to keep staffing low to float profits higher.

Sure the place is a little low brow but the food isn't half bad. Just gotta make sure they don't cook your bacon to a crisp but other than that I've never had anything to complain about besides maybe the drunken idiots I've seen in there a few times on friday and saturday nights.

I have a hunch that Tractor Supply does exactly this. I'm in my mid 20s now but several years back I worked as a store associate in a TSC up in NH. Good god my manager worked his ass off. The last time I saw him he looked like he had aged about 10 years in a span of no more than 3. We were always short staffed, and it didn't seem like he could do anything. Because of the stress of being short staffed dealing with huge lines of customers and no backup at the registers I was I shit you not like the 3rd longest employed person there besides him and the girl in receiving after being there for 3 months. I finally quit like everyone else because I fucking hate retail but thats another story lol

I don't doubt that, but staffing a busy restaurant with one person during a peak time is never going to work. If they actually did make that a policy, we would hear stories about this kind of stuff all the time because no one person can handle that level of traffic. I've never seen fewer than three people working at any WH. Usually, it's 5-6.

If any WH location regularly staffed like that to maximize profits, service would suffer to the point where customers would stop going. I could see them staffing with three people and working them to death, but not a single person. That's either due to employees not showing up or a scheduling error.

It goes w/out saying that there are businesses where they squeeze their employees to a breaking point just for that profit margin. Which is sad and an example of greedy capitalism (versus good capitalism).

But I think this particular story is just another indicator of how the whole WH chain operates. As long as there's one person on deck, the restaurant stays open. All depends on the customers' attitudes once they realize the deal.

and the management was spectacular...but that was a
couple (cough* cough*) years back so it may have changed!

The wage in the Carolinas at that time was $2.15 /hr. for service
people...so you can see why I didn't stay in the area...

Try reading the GOD DAMNED story and not interjecting.....

What I read was the one employee cooked the food while the volunteers bused tabled and cleaned dishes.

Many times I have seen a customer get up and get the coffee pot when the staff was busy, fill up there cup and go around filling up others too.

most the people who go to waffle house are not cunts. and any one who is willing to jump up knows the few dangers of a kitchen.

BTW waffle house is awesome. i would help out too that food is too good. double cheeseburger deluxe double side of hashbrowns.
