(CNN)Orania is not prime real estate by any stretch of the imagination.
The settlement west of the Orange River in Northern Cape, South Africa lies on arid and weather-beaten land; baked by the harsh summer sun and frigid through the dry winter. It's farmable, but not easy, requiring strong backs and callused hands.
Rising above the scrub the town's symbol flutters atop a flagpole, a young boy rolling up his sleeves, preparing to knuckle down and transform this landscape. It's a romanticized image for a romanticized notion: a place where Afrikaners can be Afrikaners. Tough, resourceful and making do; descendants of Dutch settlers and proud of it.
A remote farming town of approximately 1,300, Orania by this description is unremarkable. Except it is not. Instead, the community has gained a notoriety beyond its modest means as a parochial enclave within the Rainbow Nation, where the dream of an Afrikaner state is alive and well.
Orania, you might have guessed, is Afrikaner-only. And by extension, whites-only.

Orania is what South Africa was for whites under Apartheid, safe, functioning and with opportunities. When the blacks took over after '94 crime, corruption and just the lack of basic general governance intelligence took over. Everything the blacks touch turn to shit, literrally and figuratively. Criminals are stealing vital infrastructure of power, rail and water to sell as scrap, leading to huge problems of blackouts, no water or little and dirty water and people losing jobs because the train can't run (or even derails) as the rail or electrical cable was stolen.

The once beautiful rivers are sewage pits now because uncontrolled population growth has overwhelmed a system that's been neglected and inadequately expanded for 25 year. Once quaint, peaceful and beautiful rural towns have become degraded cesspits of filth, crime and corruption. The once strongest military in Africa has been reduced to a banana republic joke.

The economy is shot to hell because of the reverse Apartheid of the ANC, BEE (Black Economic Empowerment) and affirmative action. The ideological, commie driven (masquerading as "democracy"), war on whites. Rates, taxes and general living costs are through the roof while service delivery and quality are down the shitter. The currency, The Rand, is worth less than shit against other major currencies. Poverty is worse than ever.

This once prosperous, self-sustaining country has been pushed into the globalism, debt laden, crime ridden ground. Under blacks South Africa has gone from what could've been called Africa's only 1st world state to a 3rd world African shithole. All that still remains is its natural beauty but even that is now being degraded very quickly. Another 10 years and there will be nothing left of the country the blacks inherited from the whites and they don't have the ability to restore it. Not the sense or intelligence. I would challenge anyone to come live here for just 1 year and then try to refute these statements.

Orania is a remnant of how it used to be. It is how it could've been still if the whites had not bowed to the international pressure and the terrorism campaign (backed by the CIA and with Soviet training) of the ANC. If they had not given up the country, it would've been a genocidal blood bath for whites. The whites were forced out under great global pressure of lies and propaganda. In the end they had no choice. Abdicate or die.

Apartheid was not the evil it was made out to be. In fact, the prosperity and safety of the country was thanks to it. Under Apartheid everyone was better off and the blacks had a chance to properly develop and catch up to whites but all that is gone.

We've never been less free, less safe, than right now because of crime, limits on free speech (ie: a white can't publically critisize a black man, especially a powerful one, as a criminal even if the evidence is overwhelming but a black can call a white whatever and get away with it) and PC liberalism. The country I grew up in is dead and now we're only wandering its pest ridden zombie corpse because there's nowhere better to go in the world anymore.

According to some, “…There’s an ugly reality that we can’t just sweep under the rug: that apartheid benefitted white South Africans at the cost of all others.”

Since 1970 the budget for black education was raised by about 30% per year every year. More than any other government department.

In the period 1955 -1984 the amount of black school students increased 31 times from 35,000 to 1,096 000.

65% of black South African children were at school compared to Egypt 64%, Nigeria 57%, Ghana52%, Tanzania50% and Ethiopia 29%. Amongst the adults of South Africa, 71% could read and write (80% between the ages 12 and 22). Compare In South Africa, the whites built 15 new classrooms for blacks every working day, every year. At 40 children per class it meant space for an additional 600 black students every day!

In 1985 there were 42,000 Blacks at 5 universities in South Africa, about the same amount at the universities of the homelands (another 40,000 at another five).

In an article called “Die Afrikaner” 11 Feb 1987, the quarterly magazine called “Vox Africana Nr 29 4/87 stated that, South Africa had 4,8 million whites and 18,2 million blacks in 1987. The whites paid 77% of the taxes and the blacks only 15%…despite this…56% of the government budget was spent on blacks.

During the time of Dr. Verwoerd. the living standards of Blacks were rising at 5,4% per year against that of the whites at 3,9% per year. In 1965 the economic growth of South Africa was the second highest in the world at 7,9%. The rate of inflation was a mere 2% per annum and the prime interest rate only 3% per annum. Domestic savings were so great that South Africa needed no foreign loans for normal economic expansion. Even Lord Deedes admitted, “White South Africa grew to become the economic giant of the continent, the other members of the Commonwealth virtually sank into poverty.”

At the height of Apartheid in 1978 Soweto had 115 football fields, 3 Rugby fields, 4 athletic tracks, 11 Cricket fields, 2 Golf courses, 47 Tennis courts, 7 swimming pools built to Olympic standards, 5 Bowling alleys, 81 Netball fields, 39 children play parks, and countless civic halls, movie houses and clubhouses.

In addition to this, Soweto had 300 churches, 365 schools, 2 Technical Colleges, 8 clinics, 63 child day care centres, 11 Post Offices, and its own fruit and vegetable market.

There were 2300 registered companies that belonged to black businessmen, about 1000 private taxi companies. 3% of the 50,000 vehicle owners in 1978 were Mercedes Benz owners. Soweto alone had more cars, taxis, schools, churches and sport facilities than most independent countries in Africa. The Blacks of South Africa had more private vehicles than the entire white population of the USSR at the time.
Today Soweto has modern shopping malls like, Dobsonville Shopping Centre. In 2005 the Protea Gardens Mall opened. This was followed by the Baramall Shopping Centre and the Jabulani Shopping complex and the Maponya Mall. Experts say that Soweto has as much as 25% oversupply of retail space.

The biggest hospital in the world, Baragwanath with 3200 beds and at its peak during Apartheid with almost 8000 staff, had 23 operation theatres fitted out with the most modern medical equipment that existed in the world. Blacks were treated here, operated on…at full state costs to the white-taxpayers for unlimited periods. The budget of this hospital was and is higher than the yearly budget of most small member states of the United Nations.

Next door to Baragwanath is the St. John’s Eye Clinic. The clinic was world famous for the treatment of Glaucoma, Cataracts, traumatic eye injuries and rare tropical diseases.
Baragwanath in 1978 employed 450 medical doctors in full-time service. It treated 112 000 in-patients and 1.62 million out-patients per year. The children and infant death rate with 34.8 per 1000 was lower than Harlem in New York.

In 1982 alone, this hospital performed 898 heart operations of world quality.

The Boks won the World Cup because they were well trained, well protected from poltical crap and well organised. The coach, Rassie Erasmus, and his management team made consistently good decisions. Not always perfect, which is why they lost against the All Blacks in the group stage, but good. The players were there on merit. They were the best he could put in.

The government likes the fact that the captain, Siya Kolisi, was black and that over 60% of the team was black and colored. They, and I think many black supporters, like that much but the team was just better "on the day", as is often said, and in general they are a good team. They also won the Rugby Championship, the annual 4 nation competition between South Africa, Argentina, New Zeeland and Australia, so they had a solid run-up to the competition. They deserved to win even if the damn government wants to politicise it as they do with everything.

On the question of attendance. It's the second most popular sport after soccer. SA supporters don't like losers. If a team, even the Springboks, do bad, the stadiums will be empty. They're tough on teams. You must perform or you're on your own. In the local competitions there are often near empty stadiums for poor performing teams, aside from that tickets can be too expensive. So, yeah, not exactly a great motivator for teams or supporters.
