Re: Cable cutter thread!
Cable/satellite prices are waaaay overpriced.

All that money to watch leftists entertain you with fake drama and soul-crushing commercials.... why?

Television, streaming, video games.. suspend reality until your real life is hard coded with fantasy.. until your brain is stunted and dependent.. until your greater potential for social/emotional/behavioral intelligence is crippled and the rest of your interpersonal life is stuck behind a curve like some 3rd-world soap opera.

Science!

some free msm channels here to get you started.

ustv now is great for NFL because their channels are out of the PA area, so you get Pitt and Philly, along with whatever your own locals provide.

I can't find a working app for Kodi anymore, but I haven't looked in 2 weeks.

Amazon Fire Stick
-install downloader

-install Stremio
- install juan carlos 2, piratebay, and popcorn...add other addons if you want.

- install Cinema Apk

install bookmarker:
install firefox

-then make a bookmark for ustv247.tv

you now have free cable tv with ustv247 and channel guide...access to all movies and tv shows that you miss with stremio and Cinema Apk...and the only cost you have is the firestick.

cancel cable

keep internet

PROFIT!
 Quoting: GreyAlienHouseParty

Instead of Firefox with Bookmarker, I went with Puffin TV and it's bookmark capabilities. The only time I tried to watch NFL on a Sunday, it kept kicking me out. Seemed like a Puffin bug, but not sure.

Kodi (Titanium from Supreme Builds) used to have a working version of USTV Now apk, but it's not provided anymore and I can't get anything else to work.

Another PS Vue victim here. The last month will be free ($54.99 is what we pay for the middle package.)

Hoping Youtube TV will start offering sign up bonus's to Vue subscribers in a month or 2. Went with YTV because of it's DVR ability, and multiple streams on the same account.

We have several of the firestick's that went on sale during the July cyber sale at amazon. Still have a firetv 2.0, and some chromecasts.

Also have an old TIVO that has some free viewing apps on it as well.

I'd like to try out a good directional rooftop antenna. With it, we may be able to pick up stations from Midland, Bay City, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Traverse City. Detroit is doubtful.

Quit TV and Dish Network about ten years ago. Internet only now. I like PS4 Golf games so I just buy them. Just pick out a couple of good games and buy them instead of always being connected. That's what I do anyway.

I will have to try a TV antenna and see if they have improved. I couldn't get much of anything 15 years ago. Free TV and some NFL games would be nice.
 Quoting: Joe in JT 75049243

Off topic kinda, but what golf games do you play? Back when I was a kid I played msgolf99 and was briefly ranked #1 on the ladder system (the ranking system). Since then I played tiger woods but wasn’t particularly a fan of the Rory version.

Indoor small flat panel ota hdtv antennas get you excellent reception and plenty of channnels, including the main ones. Its been great for at least a decade. Under 40 bucks at walmart. Best purchase when i was actually watching tv...

This. Keep your Internet feed, buy a good digital antenna for your televisions to pick up free local broadcasts, then subscribe to Netflix. You'll never go back to watching advertising-based television again.

Re: Cable cutter thread!
Over The Air, ota, via an antenna here with 39 stations (the new antennas if you are near a city are much improved, LEAF's mid range flat one works great for me, outside antenna needed if FAR out.

Also have a ROKU (free) and pay $12/mo +- for Netflix.

A couple of times a year I want a programs that is NOT ota but on pay cable content (for me hockey), I use my laptop HDMI connection and find a live free stream and just steam that direct to my TV.

Lastly, what makes it really nice for me is that I have an Over The Air DVR, so I can program it to record over the air shows onto a hard drive and then watch them when I want to. WELL WORTH THE MONEY to buy, and NO recurring charges!! (can NOT record ROKU stuff though).

My high speed internet is AT&T fiber at 100 mbs and I pay $50/mo for 1 Terabit of data (works out to about 300 hours of Netflicks watching plus my other internet usage per month - which I have never close to).

I also have a Magic Jack phone, which works out to about $3/mo (via the 3 year plan) which I wanted because of the 911 ability. I have used Magic Jack for a number of years and no complaints, though there are a few restrictions on usage which a consumer will never run up against but if you are using it for business may. It does cut off all calls after one hour, but you can then just call the person back. OH ... and unlike virtually any other IP phone system Magic Jack supports old style FAX machines right out of the box (for your multi function printer).

Total cost per month for my tv, home phone, and internet is $65/mo+-. Not bad imo.

Re: Cable cutter thread!
We do YouTube TV. Has our local channels plus the unlimited DVR. They did raise us to $50 per month, but still better than $160 for DirecTV. Share our Netflix and Prime with daughter in exchange for her Hulu and HBO Now logins. Bought (2) Roku Express and (2) Roku Streaming Sticks and all have worked flawlessly for over 14 months now.

Also have an outdoor antenna as a backup if internet is out and it also picks up other stations not offered by YouTube TV.

For movies can't get on the other subscriptions, download torrents via one of may torrent sites behind a VPN with uTorrent kill-switch. Been doing that for years without nary a problem.

I’ve got two Roku sets with Prime and Hulu... it’s about $17 a month for those two, and that combined with all of the free channels through Roku is far more content than any cable plan on the planet.

I use an FTA(FreeToAir)antenna for regular tv.

Otherwise, I just use my mobile unlimited internet for YTube.

I also use the the Flud app for downloading movies then transfer them to an On The Go mini usb stick then onto my Linux computer running VLC.

Nobody "needs" cable.

Those first 2 websites would be nice if they didn't constantly buffer every 3 seconds making them impossible to watch.
My favorite online sources are pluto.tv,tubitv, and therokuchannel.roku .You don't have to have Roku to get these channels as well as many other channel apps found on ROKU TVs.

Re: Cable cutter thread!
THERE IS A NEW OPTION FOR INTERNET SERVICE!

I was paying Cox about $99/mo for their Gigablast Cable plus the router @ 9.95/mo.

I got an offer on my Verizon wireless bill. My area (in the burbs of Las Vegas) has just gotten VERIZON 5g Service switched on in the neighborhood. But unlike others, Verizon isn't offering 5g mobile phone service yet. Instead, they're offering a gigabyte internet service using their 5g network. You get an installed small antenna on your roof someplace, a single cable dropped into your house and a box that looks like a router. It offers high-speed WIFI in your house, or you can hardwire it using one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the box. So far I've plugged three TV's, two Epson Printers, two cell phones, three computers that are on most of the time, and our Apple TV's. I'm still getting 800mb/s-1gig speed ratings most of the time. No 3-5 pm internet speed lag when kids get out of school, as we had with Cox! (My internet would go down to almost no service during the after school hours with Cox. It was oversold and oversubscribed, obviously.) My Apple TV's and Roku's work flawlessly. There is plenty of bandwidth available to stream two 4k movies on two different sets at the same time and still use the internet for browsing, etc.!!

The service seems relatively bulletproof. We've seen some heavy rains and storms so far, and the service doesn't seem to be bothered by them.

The Verizon early subscriber discount gives you the service for under 65/mo. And the price is locked in for as long as you keep it! The friggin service is getting faster as the weeks go by. The tech that installed it said it would improve as they got the 5g network balanced. The network is smart enough to increase available bandwidth to areas as the demand increases or decreases. Verizon offers a VOIP telephone connection over the 5g network for an additional $13 - $30 per month per line depending on long-distance cover and whether or not you use their voicemail. You can get VOIP phone service from other providers, cheaper, but having it all on one bill is worth a little bit, I think.

The Verizon Internet comes with an option to plug a battery pack into it for back-up in case of a power failure. It's only good for eight hours, but usually that's more than enough to cover any power failure in this area.

Verizon is an overly automated corporate behemoth but they've got a winner with this early deployment of 5g service for fixed-point internet access vs mobile phones requiring the purchase of a new phone and there are very few 5g phones out there and they cost like hell, so far. I'm sure the price of 5g phones will come down, but in the meantime, Verizon is making money off of their investment in the 5g equipment and stealing customers from local cable companies left and right. If you put your billing on autopay, the give you an extra 5 dollars off your bill, too. The installation is included at no extra cost, and is a white-glove install and done by techs that are actually helpful in getting your computers, phones, printers, etc. on the wifi or hard wired if you have the ethernet installed already. Overall, the thing works VERY well and is more stable than my previous Cox Cable Gigablast service. The fact that it's about 1/3rd cheaper is a major bonus, too. It's rolling out in various cities all over the country, so check the Verizon websites and put yourself on their mailing list for a notice when it's available in your area if it's not there already.
