User ID: 77416429 United States 11/13/2019 08:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Getting old! I go on Social Security in December and will need a supplemental insurance to cover the 20% of medical bills I cannot afford. Quoting: Hnry Bwmn I should have something to cover dental, glasses and hearing too as all these faculties are slowly going to shit! Any recommendations? If you are retired, what do you use and why do you like it, or don't like? What costs are involved as far as monthly charges? Thanks ahead of time! You probably do NOT want a "supplemental" plan but an "advantage" or Part C plan. CIGNA has an HMO that includes some of the best in these plans when it comes to dental and hearing aid coverage. [link to www.cigna.com (secure)] The problem with HMO's is of course that you have to stay in network for suffer higher costs. There are also PPO's that allow you the freedom to choose any doc that participates in Medicare so long as they accept Medicare. I am an insurance agent and will be happy to help you figure out whats best if you want me to. It all depends on where you need your focus of coverage to be and plans vary depending on where you live, etc. If you don't mind my asking, do you have any chronic diseases that need special attention? I have Diabetes and have a plan from United Healthcare (PPO) that is designed around the needs of a diabetic. The problem with it, based on what you said, is there is no dental or hearing aid coverage. Also, go straight to the Medicare.gov site..they have tools that will let you compare various policies but you probably want to stay with the "biggie" providers as they have the most experience, etc. [link to www.medicare.gov (secure)] A popup will ask for your email addy but they won't contact you. Forget about dental and optical and choose Plan F or G. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77606053 Plan F doesn't exist anymore. Plan G is okay if you are expecting high medical bills. If you have some cash on hand you can get an Advantage Plan. I signed up for Humana Medicare Advantage that costs me $19 a month. It does not cover dental or vision. I have dentures and I can buy glasses at any discount outlet. The out of pocket limit is $5900 in a year. Thats not bad if you have the funds in the bank. It also covers Tier 1 prescription drugs. |
