I hear you, even though I'm of a different generation. It certainly helps to have a husband or family who helps. That would make all the difference to a woman....to have some support.

My firstborn had colic, and I wasn't near any relatives to have someone help me. We lived in Germany. The military doctors weren't helpful at all. You never saw the same one twice. No internet. A husband who never helped. I was up all night with the baby. I cooked and washed cloth diapers all day when she napped. Whew! I never complained, though. The only thing I had for advice was a book that said you can't spoil a baby by holding it too much, so I did. She grew up to be a wonderful adult...independent, very successful, and happy.

I have always thought that a high school curriculum should include what to expect when you have a child, how to raise that child, and also how to handle finances.
