I have taken Effexor and Xanax both every day for years and have never had the urge to grab a firearm and go into a school or my workplace and kill a bunch of innocent people. In fact, I teach people how to survive active shooter events if they are unarmed. I train and take classes for this regularly. Just finished a very intense 8-hour active shooter simulation/seminar two weeks ago.

We can't demonize the guns. They are inanimate objects incapable of causing harm without human interaction.

If those articles are correct on their statements of the number of active shooters who were on a regimen of drugs for mental health, then that correlation needs to be examined. Closely. But we can't demonize the drugs. My quality of life with the drugs is by far better than without. Your mileage may vary, of course.

How about we demonize the stigma of mental illness in this country? I make no secret of my own mental health issues to my coworkers (PTSD, clinical depression, and anxiety that date back to my childhood). They know I take medication and see a therapist regularly. And they support me 100%. The stereotype of people with mental illness all being wild-eyed crazed maniacs frothing-at-the-mouth ticking time bombs is ridiculous.

How about we demonize the insurance companies for not making good, quality mental health care affordable for everyone who needs it? My therapist costs me $125 a visit (out-of-pocket) and my psychiatrist is double that, also out-of-pocket. How many Americans can afford that kind of chronic medical care? I'm just fortunate that my wife and I have a good combined income.

How about we demonize the perpetual victim mentality? People who don't receive enough ketchup on their Big Mac are not victims. People who come in fourth place are not victims. People who are told, "No, you can't do that," are not victims. Everybody loves to be a victim of something in this country and then blame their bad behavior on it. And we LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT! Knock it off and suck it up, already.

Take away the guns, and active shooters will become active stabbers instead. But provide decent mental health services to everyone and quit coddling children when they don't win, then maybe we just might see a difference in how people act and react in this country.

The only time in my life I ever thought about killing myself was when I was on effexor. Never will go back on that poison again.

A major portion of mental illness is due to endocannabinoid deficiency which can be fixed with low THC hemp or CBD oil.

We don't need SSRI's, they aren't fixing the problem.

But here in Virginia, they're trying to make anything that holds more than 10 rounds an "assault weapon". SO if this .45 fit into that category, what better thing to serve up to the retarded left than this?

There are about 20 mass shootings a week.

You don't hear about them because 90% of the shooters are black.

Most of the rest are hispanic, occasionally there is a white shooter.

You usually only hear about the white ones.

I have been there, my friend. You have to understand that it is possible to be so depressed that you are incapable of committing suicide. Then as you start taking medication, your depression rises through that narrow suicidal corridor before it takes full effect and you get past it. Your doctor should have explained this to you and monitored you closely for weeks after you started taking it. He/She should have also started you a a very low dosage and slowly increased it over months.

This is what I mean by "quality" mental health care. Too many doctors prescribe a drug for depression and basically say, "Go forth and be happy." It doesn't work that way. Medication is not the solution; it's a very small part of a good mental health plan.

Facts:
1. The shooter used a Colt .45 Semi-Automatic PISTOL.
2. The shooter tried to kill himself.
3. Today is the shooter's birthday.
4. The "town" is a suburb of LA.
5. There was no significant PROTECTION procedure at the school.
6. The police and other first responders were there as soon as they could get there.
7. So far, two (2) student victims have died at the Hospital.
8. NO long guns of any kind were used.
9. Democrats are not blaming our damaged society on their policies which led to lack of morality.

Opinion: Public Schools not following the Academy/Charter system is a waste of money and time. A school MUST have the power to discipline students, even permanently disassociating the student.
