Fire the first volley and get countered 5 minutes later. If you do indirect fire .. do it right. Artillery today must be shoot and scoot or else you are dead. Artillery and bombs, a short-range recoilless rifle; things colloquially known as 'tactical nukes'. Then nuclear weaponry below a certain yield was banned to lower the risk of nukes being employed in warfare. Russia was a signatory to this ban. However, while looking this up I came across a lot of news stories from May 2019 suggesting Russia may be carrying out banned nuclear testing with low-yield weapons. So that's not good. But like people said, the artillery piece here is going to be the recipient of a lot of counter-battery fire if the Russian employ this thing against any professional military. |

If it's lobbing nukes at advancing armor columns, it only needs to fire a couple nuke rounds. Mission accomplished. It's not like they have hundreds of rounds on trucks like regular artillery or mlrs. Russian tactic of envelopement is ideal for low yield nukes. It's stupid to even speculate the US has a chance. All those former Warsaw Pact NATO members ate still on the Russian power grid and can be shutdown with the flip of a switch. That band the fact that NATO is infiltrated top to bottom with Russian spies. |

Quoting: Twogun40 Basically an artillery piece. So what, the US has the same. When I think of a "mortar," I think of a much smaller and much shorter range weapon. Now that would be interesting if they were detonating nuclear rounds only a few hundred meters away. LOL. |

The Ruskies have had better since the 1970's [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] 20 miles range for the missiles. 3 minutes to fire. Even better: ISKANDER-M [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] 310 miles range Warhead 480–700 kg (1,060–1,540 lb) thermonuclear weapon, High explosive fragmentation, submunition, penetration, fuel-air explosive, EMP[5][6] In November 2016, the Russian military announced that the modernisation of the Iskander-M System was under way.[11] A number of countries were reported to have shown interest in purchasing the export version of Iskander, but such possibility was only announced in early February 2017.[18] The United States has argued that the cruise missile version SSC-8 R-500 Iskander-K is in violation of the INF Treaty because its estimated range is beyond 500 km.[21] So... MGM-140 ATACMS In March 2016, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Raytheon announced they would offer a missile to meet the U.S. Army's Long Range Precision Fires (LRPF) requirement to replace the ATACMS. The missile will use advanced propulsion to fly faster and further (originally out to 310 miles (500 km))[19] while also being thinner and sleeker, increasing loadout to two per pod, doubling the number able to be carried by M270 MLRS and M142 HIMARS launchers.[20][21] Lockheed and Raytheon will test-fire their submissions for the renamed Precision Strike Missile (PRSM) program in 2019, with the selected weapon planned to achieve Initial Operational Capability in 2023; the initial PRSM will only be able to hit stationary targets on land, but later versions will track moving targets on land and sea.[22] With the United States withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, the range of the PRSM will be increased beyond the '499 km' limitation previously placed upon it by the treaty.[23] [link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)] |
