Please revise your facts and add links before posting. Khomeini spent a total of 112 days in France in a small village outside of Paris called Neauphle le Chateau. Another famous Neauphle resident was writer Marguerite Duras. I went to the street with Khomeini's house. It was closed to traffic with police on both ends but that is common practice for officials whether French or or foreign. All retired French presidents are also guarded by police forces. One could walk the street without problems. It was before 9/11 security wasn't as tightened as now. Imam Khomeini was assigned to stay inside the house or in the garden. His assistants would take care of everything. He recorded thousands of cassettes that were in turn sent to Iran to be analyzed and broadcasted to the faithful. The messages Khomeini sent were anti-Shah and quite radical. I remember that time very well. Many reporters of all sorts and devout followers were allowed inside the house. Neauphle was a very quiet town. Not us regular passers by. We were just curious to see the house. It was a curiosity. The Imam gathered local intellectual support such as writers Jean-Paul Sartre and Michel Foucault. In fact nobody knew of Khomeini. Shah was struck by incurable cancer. He had fled to Egypt. Khomeini returned to Tehran 1 February 1979 on board an Air France flight. Jimmy Carter was the POTUS at the time. I came. I saw. I Concorde. We toppled the Shah, because for all his faults he was a natuonalist. We supported Khomeini and he was bankroled by the CIA. Then they attacked the US embassy and held our diplomats, staff and ...others hostage. Saudi became our new bestest friend and enemy of Iran. We had our good friend Saddam attack Iran in a war that cost over 1 million lives. Saudi funded a lot of Iraqs cost. The war ended and the mullahs used public anger to lock down Iran. All of this started about 50 years ago. Entire generations of iranians have been stuck in a theocratic fascist oligarchy and now they are rising up. The reason you hear so little about it is because the neocon clans want another war worth a few trillion dollars more. That war is hard to justify, and its very hard to spin, bombing people who want a regime change the way we do. The neocon plan was regime change after a profitable war. Not before. This shows how much power they have over the media. |
