Anonymous Coward User ID: 78170378 United States 11/18/2019 10:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you plan for 5 days then it'll be 4 days thawing & it takes damn near a day to cook the thing. Quoting: Mental Case Deep fried! Did it 2 years in a row. when the turkeys done you make French fries in the turkey flavored oil! Absolutely amazing! Deep fried means no proper gravy which is important to many of us. No homemade gravy on Thanksgiving are you kidding me. Store bought is shit. My sibling's family is grilling their turkey (same concept as frying, i.e. no gravy) so being a proper American and concerned with traditional American values not to mention that fact that is truly awesome and easy to make, I bought my own turkey to roast ahead of time to make gravy and take it over to my sibling's home. Turkeys can be bought for around 85 cents per pound this time of year or lower. Buy another one and bake it for the drippings for gravy. All it takes is a twelve pounder so less than ten bucks. I always buy four turkeys and save three for later. |

Quoting: Mental Case ---------------- That's a damn good idea! I just feel bad when I get onto GLP on Thanksgiving-eve & tell people to give up on their frozen solid bird...it's too late. So I thought I would give an early heads-up this year :) You are so sweet. |

I would say 250 degrees for about 20 hours should be close, frozen to cooked. Then the last hour cover with a little oil and herbs and salt and pepper and crank the oven up to 500 should be nice and golden brown. The outside will get a different amount of heat than the inside frozen cavity...the outside & inside will have different thaw rates. It's a dangerous game with a high price to pay. I would thaw it in the fridge! If I am going to be damned...I am going to be damned for who I really am! |

Then put the bird in the oil and if there isn't oil spilling all over the place...turn the heat source back on. With any luck you wont burn your house down. User ID: 78153434 United States 11/19/2019 12:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I once baked a turkey breast side down & covered. Quoting: Mental Case Then I flipped it upright and baked uncovered for the last hour. It fell apart...but it was the best damn turkey I ever tasted! The only thing you miss out on is the whole-bird presentation (because it falls apart). Yup! It doesn't resemble once it gets touched when trying to plate it. But that is the best damn moist turkey when you cook it right! I didn't cook it that way but basted the heck out of it and one other thing I can't seem to fully remember but that year. everyone loved the turkey. It wasn't the usual 'dry meat' type we usually have "anywhere you go." And I always hate that. Freaking taste and chews like balsa wood. Living has taught me one thing; nothing is certain...except salvation through Jesus Christ! |
