As someone who’s smoked a LOT of weed, I think it’s a huge waste of time, much worse for you than the potheads think, and it’s supposed benefits are mostly hype. That said, I would vote for legalization if only to shut the potheads up.

Honestly, the best thing to do at the Federal level is simply deschedule it. Even if the bill is pristine as introduced, the process is a freaking nightmare and nothing good gets through unscathed.

Quick civics lesson...

1) Bill introduced (read twice and assigned to committee)

2) Committee hearing (maybe)

3) Amendments made by committee

4) Voted on (maybe) by Committee...If it passes, then...

5) Goes to possibly be scheduled for a floor vote

6) If scheduled for a floor vote, amendments can be made from the floor

7) Results of floor vote...If passed, goes to the other house for a complete repeat with a handler in that house. In this case, goes from House of Reps to Senate.

8) If there are changes made by the second house, the bill goes to a House/Senate Conference committee.

9) Then it gets voted on as released from the Conference Committee up or down in both houses.

10) If it passes out of both houses then it goes to the President. He can veto or sign, or pocket veto in some cases.
