It was the book "The Cancer Ward" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, that gave the world a glimpse of what this mushroom can do to cancer patients. Because of this book, many medical researchers went to Siberia to check out the validity of its cancer claims. A medical team found out that although there was a lot of talk about cancer in this place, not even a single cancer patient was admitted in any of its hospitals. They also found out that the Russian peasants, in order to save money on coffee, were brewing Chaga mushrooms instead. Unwittingly, they were able to treat themselves for cancer by drinking this Chaga tea regularly. |

Chaga gets it medicinal properties from growing on birch trees as they can survive in conditions which would kill a human being in a matter of hours (-70f). You can often see cylinders of white birch bark on the forest floor with the centre rotted away. This is because the medicine which keeps the tree alive is in the bark. When that medicine is taken by a human the benefits are transferred. Anyone can realise this by consuming Chaga. Almost immediately there will be an increase in strength, energy and the body's stress tolerance. |

As a nutritional delivery system of plant sterols it rules supreme. Without sterols (steroids) there would be no life. The physical strength of cells depends on them and the Endocrine Function (Human's ability to 'cope') is fed by them. |

It can also neutralise SuperOxides (dangerous free radical) as it is rich in the enzyme Superoxide Dismutase (O2-). SOD is a stable negative ion which can donate an electron to free radicals without becoming a free radical itself. It's this donating of a negative electron which neutralises the positive charge of the free radical. |

Substances which can keep these massive lifeforms alive are very powerful. With these cures the results are rapid and dependable. Trees must withstand the stresses of pollution, harsh weather, sunlight, limited oxygen and pestilence. It is the chemicals they produce which allows them to do so. When these chemicals are ingested by humans there is no doubt about the effects. They are definite, provable and powerful. |

Add the Chaga to the water (I use a 5ltr water boiler with a thermostat) and slowly bring it to 50 degrees centigrade. Hold it at that temperature for 48hrs. You can start drinking it after 6 hours and it will contain many of the medicinal compounds but you need the long warm soak to release the beta glucans and polysaccharides. It doesn't have to be refrigerated but it is refreshing cold. They say it's good for 3 days but it doesn't spoil. |

Has anyone ever ordered products from that online source? Amazon has several entries for Chaga but it's more costly and there's an extra shipping charge. In any case I don't know which I should buy. |

Alaskan Chaga is very good and will be cheaper for you guys in the USA. The best way to take any plant (100% bioavailable) is a spagyric tincture you can buy them on Amazon too. |

The tea process sounds arduous. Are supplements in pill form any good? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77852427 The best Chaga comes from the coldest places because that's where it has to work very hard to stay alive. As it extracts the medicinal compounds from the Birch Tree it protects itself from the sub-zero temperatures with a hard black covering of potent antioxidants. The brown/golden inside is condensed nutrient rich sap. Always look for bits of both black and brown pieces when buying powder or coarsely ground Chaga. The black outside crust contains the most powerful medicine. |

The longer Chaga is steeped in water, the more of its water soluble benefits become available. After using the grinds for tea you can then gain further medicinal benefits by making a tincture from the alcohol soluble Chaga components. For tea I recommend having a dedicated Chaga pot (glass, stainless steel or better.) Add a teaspoon of grinds per litre of water. I only heat to tea temperature, never boiling. Strain out into your cup and return any Chaga grinds back into the pot. Fill pot back up with water. It can be left on stove making it convenient to drink daily, adding more Chaga grinds when tea weakens (every 5 -6 days.) After a month I strain out the Chaga, let drip dry, spread on parchment paper covered cookie sheet and freeze. I tamp the frozen Chaga grinds into a glass jar and cover with alcohol (I use vodka or the higher proof spiced rum.) This mixture will darken up over time and you can use it as a medicinal tincture by adding it to smoothies etc . . . I have been known to make a delightful boreal forest martini by shaking the Chaga vodka tincture up with double the quantity of High Bush Cranberry juice and a tablespoon of Birch syrup!! After straining out the tincture I also eat the remaining grinds by mixing them on scrambled eggs or as a sprinkle on salads. Chaga, this amazing medicinal mushroom, goes a long way!! |
