So i was messing around with one of those plasma balls where you put your hands on it and it so happens that i found out salt is attracted to it. Both the common table salt and the pink himalayan salt. However, it will only be attracted if the salt is connected to something that "gathers" the plasma rays, like a hand, a magnet or a metallic spoon, if you understand what i mean. Also, if the salt is on the glass of the plasma ball and you approach it with one of the above, it will be attracted to the hand or magnet, etc. It is as if it was travelling through a connection between the plasma ball and the instrument. It even form little chains of salt. Anyway, i decided to microwave a couple strips of alumminum foil, salt and a little magnet together to see if the stronger plasma would do something with the salt. What happened was that the magnet burst into a bunch of pieces and i am almost certain some of the salt crystallized. Now i am no expert, but i've done some wikipedia reading on paramagnetism and diamagneitsm and i don't think this is what's happening here, plus, i never heard of magnetic table salt. So i was wondering if there's anyone out there that could explain to me what just happened, in a simple way. Also, i would love to see some replication of these experiments by someone with more resources. Maybe a stronger plasma source. Edit: If anyone's interested i'll upload a video on youtube later. I have to wait until my brother arrives with a better camera. Edit 2: I'm also fairly certain the magnet did not burst because of the heat, as i had microwaved him for a much longer time some hours before but just couldnt make the plasma. Then when the plasma ball finally appeared, it burst open. Last Edited by AllisOneisAll on 11/20/2019 02:52 PM"Knock, and He'll open the door. Vanish, and He'll make you shine like the sun. Quoting: Zer0Phi Well that solves it, thanks! RIP magnet. /thread Last Edited by AllisOneisAll on 11/20/2019 03:07 PM"Knock, and He'll open the door. Vanish, and He'll make you shine like the sun. Fall, and He'll raise you to the heavens. Become nothing, and He'll turn you into everything." |

No don't stop. It's great thinking. Well don't microwave stuff. But play with the plasma ball some more. We don't often have access to high voltage and frequency. Keep playing with it and continue your thread. You know what eddie currents are? |

Maybe recruit another like-minded individual to perform control tests. It's a lot like playing with lego's. The only limit is your imagination. (and funding of course...) |

Once i get a good job i'll invest hard in this. "Knock, and He'll open the door. Vanish, and He'll make you shine like the sun. Fall, and He'll raise you to the heavens. Putting metal objects in a microwave is like sticking a bare wire across the terminals of an electrical outlet. In other words its called a "short-circuit". You will destroy the operating capability of the microwave unit, and possible cause a fire. If you are going to continue with these experiments, do it with a disposable microwave oven, do it outdoors away from flammable objects, or do it in a laboratory with safety precautions. . |
