Family members of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, who beat murder charges this year but was convicted of posing for a photograph with an enemy corpse, are asking President Donald Trump for a pardon, they wrote Thursday on social media.

In other words, Eddie Gallagher was acquitted by a military jury at a court-martial in July of the most serious charges that he faced, including the murder of an Islamic State fighter in American custody and attempted murder of civilians. However, he was convicted of a single count of posing with the ISIS fighter’s dead body.

Hence, Trump didn't not pardon Gallangher for serious war crimes, rather the man was acquitted. Further when Trump remarked the case was bungled from the start, Trump likely concluded the Gallagher was being railroad by prosecutors.

This is the rest of the story, not told by the Share Blue consensus managers who would make Trump a war crime enabler.

I am appalled at this issue playing out in public.

Having spent some years in the Navy and some years in the Pentagon I believe I have a more than average understanding of how these situations are supposed to work.

The way it should have gone down...when Trump had initial interest in this issue, back when Gallagher was in custody awaiting court martial Trump should have called in the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), been briefed on the situation. At any time Trump was not satisfied with Navy action he should have called back the CNO, told the CNO his expectations such as "Chief Gallagher is to be released with no action and no reprisal" THEN, if the Navy took further action, Trump should have called in the CNO and relieved him on the spot--sending a strong message to US military that he (Trump) was Commander in Chief and not to be trifled with.

Both Trump and CNO are way out of bounds playing this out in public.

Unfortunately the msg here is Trump is extremely weak. Couple this issue with over 3 years in office and over 50,000 employees in DOJ and Trump can not seem to take charge and lock up criminal like Hillary, Comey, MacCabe, etc, and we have evidence Trump is not really in charge.

I guess they didn't condition his immunity on his testimony matching his prior statements when they deposed him ... have you ever heard of another case in which a witness testifying under immunity then testifies at trial they are actually guilty of the murder ? never, a huge blunder

Gallagher is on trial in San Diego for allegedly killing an unarmed ISIS fighter with a hunting knife and firing on civilians with a sniper rifle while deployed in Iraq, as well as intimidating fellow SEALs in an attempt to silence them. He has pleaded not guilty, and now his fate is in the hands of the jury.

On Tuesday, Navy prosecutors presented a text message sent by the defendant showing a photo of Gallagher posing with the body of the ISIS prisoner, a teenage boy. The accompanying message read: "Good story behind this, got him with my hunting knife."

Two of his former comrades, Dylan Dille and Craig Miller, took the stand at Gallagher's court martial Wednesday.

Miller said while a medical team that included Gallagher was treating the boy, he saw Gallagher suddenly stab the prisoner in the neck, "right here on the right side in the jugular vein." Dille testified Wednesday that Gallagher later confronted teammates who were upset about the incident, telling them that "this was just an ISIS dirtbag."

Note I never said Gallagher was guilty or not. I spoke to the way both Trump and CNO handled this situation. Should have been done behind closed doors not in public. Not reasonable for Commander in Chief to direct the US military via tweets. Trump should have called in the CNO, told him what he (Trump) wanted done. If CNO did not comply, call him in to the Oval Office and fire him. Period. Believe me THAT would be known and would have been a HUGE msg to senior military.
