Why can't we raise the drivers license fee so that renters can bear some of the Burdon. My thought is not perfect but man it makes me want to sell my house and just get an apt

Claim homestead. Install a water well or build a random concrete slab/foundation and park your car on it. I saved my dad a good chunk of change by helping him file at the tax office. School taxes, can't help you there...

Go to the Texas State Senators and have them try to pass a repeal of property taxes like Prop 4 ban income tax.

they are really ruining the whole owning a home thing with this property tax shit.

given a choice between paying for my own school myself, defending my home myself, putting out my own fucking house fire, i think we know what every single goddamn person would choose

Americans rant and rave about da gubmint takin our guns

then get ran out of their houses for property taxes and never use them.

well what the fuck do they care if any of you have guns if they can take all your property one by one and you never do anything about it?

i mean, what else would have to actually happen before you used them? rape your face in broad daylight?

that wouldn't be as bad as taking your house though

Protest your taxes IN PERSON & EARLY.

You may gather the comp's from a Realtor similar to your house.

Best is find a home that is similar to your own home, paying less taxes than you.

Take pics of your home outside only of where your home HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED.

HAMMER HOME, (pun intended) all the things wrong with your home. Make you home seem barely livable yet no need to be condemned.

In my county in Texas, the appraiser told me there is three ratings, CURRENTLY UPDATED & READY TO SELL, Updated & NO UPDATES from original build.

Go for the one most applicable to your home.

I RECEIVED THE no updates from original build, except new roof.

I had pics & showed my front door damaged, busy Main Street, power lines.

I showed my house in the worst light with a ONE ON ONE MEETING WITH APPRAISER.

LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME. GOOD LUCK.

I live in the north DFW area.

They do pay a tax in increased rents, but nowhere near the level of homeowners footing the entire bill on their home.

Texas property taxes are NOT high, many States are higher, some WAY higher.

And in the end, a renter DOES pay property tax, AS part of their rent.

This!

Don't just accept and pay them, look them over and dispute any over appraisals. Last year my house and land appraisals doubled over the previous year and another 1.5 acres with 7 pine trees I own was appraised at $82,000.

I told the tax office to write me a check for everything, they "fixed" it quick.

gotta pay for services for all those illegals. schools need extra cash for them. the counties have to provide the services and with an extra population that is extra cost. blame this on the DIMS, this what you get for run away immigration.

if you fall on hard times, that tax will be the same when
you really do not have much income coming in. that is the rub.
you lose your property in high property tax state if a serious depression/recession happens.

the minute you put a concrete slab anywhere, your assessment GOES UP.
a homestead exemption does shyte but is better than nothing.

the ISD/independent sch district IS responsible for the THOUSANDS we are screwed out of and it's time the people residing in these high tax areas demand these freekkin schools MAKE DO w/their present mini-stadiums,equipment etc and DEMAND auditing on where their money is going w/results published publicly.

FFS,this area IS high volume shopping, visitors ,motels, hotels b&Bs,bars,restaurants--so why the hell can't a slice of all the taxation generated by all these businesses be used for these schools ?

LOL !!!!!!!!!!! think we're ALL jammed up in austin,DFW, etc ?
there are low real estate taxation counties or unincorporated communities w/good schools--

and unlike NJ are NOT paying muni and state--only federal.
same applies to NH and NH has NO sales tax, only federal tax,so do the math as they say for TX & NH--as for NJ ? no worse than cherry picked areas like,
westchester ny, areas of nassau/suffolk county ny cheaper ? g'way.

Wanted to add some real world numbers since that detail of what taxes are in various states is so far off for my state.

Urban areas in my state, at the lowest, are 3% of fair market value PER YEAR in taxes, and some of them are over 5% per year (and the FMV is redetermined every 3 years - and is pretty accurate).

Most city suburban area in my state are around the 3.5% to 4% of FMV per year range.

Most of Texas is nowhere close to even 2.5% of fmv/yr, which is many thousands of dollars less per year in property taxes than most areas in my state. In fact large parts of Texas are closer to 1.5% OR LESS of FMV per year for their property taxes.
