Texas property taxes ... Here we pay almost TRIPLE what people in Texas pay for the same value house ... AND ... have a state Income Tax too boot. Cry me a river ... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78198017 Wanted to add some real world numbers since that detail of what taxes are in various states is so far off for my state. Urban areas in my state, at the lowest, are 3% of fair market value PER YEAR in taxes, and some of them are over 5% per year (and the FMV is redetermined every 3 years - and is pretty accurate). Most city suburban area in my state are around the 3.5% to 4% of FMV per year range. Most of Texas is nowhere close to even 2.5% of fmv/yr, which is many thousands of dollars less per year in property taxes than most areas in my state. In fact large parts of Texas are closer to 1.5% OR LESS of FMV per year for their property taxes.
