In the villa of Ariadne

The slightest creek from the wainscoting startled its guest from some creature in the dark garden outside. Inside laid the great work of the minos with the Minoan priest king splashed in gold excited the guest. Concentration inside was interrupted by movement outside in the garden that brought the guest to its feet. Telling himself it was nothing but the shadows moving of one of the cypresses so to appease, a window became a lookout. The full moon aglow and the palms standing still black against the illuminated sky, there standing 500 feet away was a statue of emperor Hadrian bathed in the moonlight. He was found in the ruins of a Roman villa near the palace forming a garden ornament of a Roman official. He was dug up and served the purpose now his garden. The man whom built the great wall from tyre to solway. The last pale flame of Cretan civilization. Many agree in Hadrian’s time Crete had a known civilization finer in many respects than that of Rome. -cotterell info

Ariadne was a Cretan princess in Greek mythology. She was mostly associated with mazes and labyrinths because of her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus.
