What are they afraid of? Digging deep into their empathy and give a bit of effort to find
A gift that would be heart sent?

If they cannot think-
I guess the thought never counted in the first place.

Shallow spirits indeed.

Secret Santa is bullshit. I have quite enough holiday obligations with my family, screw those assholes at work. I have family assholes to deal with. Quit moving across the country to get away from yours and you wont need your secret santas to coddle you. Yeah, I'm a fucking asshole.

I guess it is the same for New Years parties. Who needs all this anxiety, we can ban them too.
 Quoting: Ostria1

If you want to go then great. It is being made to go that is the problem. Or feeling obligated. Being obligated to family is one thing. No one needs that hassle with anyone else.

The millennials are actually on to something here. The reason buddhists dont give gifts is exactly for this reason. Often the act of giving gifts creates new problems that weren't there before and this is a classic example of that. Zen buddhists actually view giving gifts as a burden. Its really the gift giver that is getting pleasure where the gift receiver has the burden of 1) handling the potentially unwanted gift. 2) acting thankful even when they are not. 3) causing the gift receiver to feel obligated to return the favor. 4) the gift receiver often feels obligated to send back a thank you card even if the gift was unwanted.

Big corporations love this social awkwardness that gift giving brings because it means more sales and more profits for them obviously. But it also provides a way to divide the family even further.

I'm the boss. I tell my employee's buy a gift if you like but don't spend over $20 bucks. Problem solved.

This happened in my shop twenty years ago and some dude bought me an entire war wash set. Brush, a sprayer, bottles of wash, the works. I guess he thought I liked my car. I thanked him and never used the fucking thing.
 Quoting: Joe in JT 75049243

My place of work made us write down a few things that what we wanted that didn’t cost much money. I got something off the list. Takes the surprise out it but at least the person didn’t waste money on you. But I could’ve taken the money I spent on them and bought what I wanted. That was the one and only time I participated in something like that.

You may think it's bullshit, which is fine, but it's not causing you "anxiety" or making you dip into your savings so you don't lose face. I can understand Secret Santa might be a pain but it's not a one of life's "triggers".

These people are MENTAL CASES. Buy something at CVS for $10 or $20 bucks.

What's probably REALLY triggering them is the SANTA part because they HATE CHRISTMAS. They HATE any reference to Christianity.
 Quoting: Blue State Rebel

What is so great about Christianity?

There are pedophiles who hunt for their child victims in the churches these days.

Church is not safe for children, because of the pedophiles.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77930416

Church isn't safe?

Pedophiles haunt ANY area involving children. You find them working in schools, daycare, the medical field (pediatricians) and even as Scout leaders!

The truth of the matter is that wherever the children are, a pedophile will do what it takes to get access to them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76288549

True. No place is really safe when there are children around. Parents just need to watch their kids. Even around family which is where most get molested.

Re: 'It Does Lead To Anxiety’: Millennials Triggered By 'Secret Santa'
Some millennials want "Secret Santa" canceled.

A study found that Secret Santa gift exchanges trigger anxiety in many millennials. Dr. Ashley Weinberg, a psychology lecturer at the University of Salford in Manchester, claimed the holiday gift swap triggers anxiety in those who overspend because they don’t want to appear "stingy."

The study from Jobsite found that 26% of millennials admitted to dipping into savings or overdrafting their accounts to fund an office gift. Around 17% reported that they “felt judged” by their co-workers based on the gift they chose to contribute.

In total, 78% of millennials felt they contributed “more than they should” to an office party gift compared to 58% of the rest of the workforce.

You know. They have a point there.

My family finally stopped with gift giving when it became a competition. One brought expensively wrapped gifs while the other couldn’t afford it and it just bright down the mood. Gifts were really for the kids so it is so nice to not have that pressure now. I stopped celebrating all holidays. It’s better to give from the heart when you want to.

i like yankee swaps better. you can steal back your own gift, there are special rules... so people will actually buy good shit that they want for themselves.

id always buy sambuca or other weird booze than nobody else liked.

or a visa gift card.

millennial anxiety...... give me a break. things change. and inflation isnt the only factor effecting quality of life for particular generations. min wage, oil prices, housing industry, taxes, cos of bread and milk... are all things that can be leveraged. its not the 70's... shit is expensive. boomers need to get that and millennials need to respect that things used to be easier in this country. safer, better. different standards. boomers, just chill if the youngster isnt hip to what you do, respect that in return.

How about learning to manage money?
I put aside money each month for Christmas. I have a budget and know what I'll spend. I also allow for the extra things that come up over the holidays...gift exchanges (although my coworkers we have all decided no gifts between us) , hostess gifts, etc. Sometimes if I see something nice throughout the year, I may think it would make a nice gift for someone I may pick it up.
Yes, I have a small stash for this.
Habits I learned from my mother growing up.

I'm not caught off guard when holidays roll around.

If those idiots want to cancel Christmas, then let them cancel it for themselves, but as far as me, my friends and family, we will continue Christmas. And those little turds can then cry they didn't get gifts.
