If they cannot think- I guess the thought never counted in the first place. Shallow spirits indeed. It’s not heart sent when you feel forced to give. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77152395 United States 11/25/2019 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The millennials are actually on to something here. The reason buddhists dont give gifts is exactly for this reason. Often the act of giving gifts creates new problems that weren't there before and this is a classic example of that. Zen buddhists actually view giving gifts as a burden. Its really the gift giver that is getting pleasure where the gift receiver has the burden of 1) handling the potentially unwanted gift. 2) acting thankful even when they are not. 3) causing the gift receiver to feel obligated to return the favor. 4) the gift receiver often feels obligated to send back a thank you card even if the gift was unwanted. Big corporations love this social awkwardness that gift giving brings because it means more sales and more profits for them obviously. But it also provides a way to divide the family even further. |

I tell my employee's buy a gift if you like but don't spend over $20 bucks. Problem solved. Quoting: Joe in JT 75049243 This happened in my shop twenty years ago and some dude bought me an entire war wash set. Brush, a sprayer, bottles of wash, the works. I guess he thought I liked my car. I thanked him and never used the fucking thing. My place of work made us write down a few things that what we wanted that didn’t cost much money. I got something off the list. Takes the surprise out it but at least the person didn’t waste money on you. But I could’ve taken the money I spent on them and bought what I wanted. That was the one and only time I participated in something like that. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76100954 You may think it's bullshit, which is fine, but it's not causing you "anxiety" or making you dip into your savings so you don't lose face. I can understand Secret Santa might be a pain but it's not a one of life's "triggers". Amen Triggered by it vs not liking it are two different things If Secret Santa is freaking them out, how do they deal with a mortgage? You have to pay to live somewhere. You don’t have to buy gifts for people to survive. |

Quoting: Blue State Rebel What's probably REALLY triggering them is the SANTA part because they HATE CHRISTMAS. They HATE any reference to Christianity. What is so great about Christianity? There are pedophiles who hunt for their child victims in the churches these days. Church is not safe for children, because of the pedophiles. Church isn't safe? Pedophiles haunt ANY area involving children. You find them working in schools, daycare, the medical field (pediatricians) and even as Scout leaders! The truth of the matter is that wherever the children are, a pedophile will do what it takes to get access to them. True. No place is really safe when there are children around. Parents just need to watch their kids. Even around family which is where most get molested. |

Quoting: ~kpm~ A study found that Secret Santa gift exchanges trigger anxiety in many millennials. Dr. Ashley Weinberg, a psychology lecturer at the University of Salford in Manchester, claimed the holiday gift swap triggers anxiety in those who overspend because they don’t want to appear "stingy." The study from Jobsite found that 26% of millennials admitted to dipping into savings or overdrafting their accounts to fund an office gift. Around 17% reported that they “felt judged” by their co-workers based on the gift they chose to contribute. In total, 78% of millennials felt they contributed “more than they should” to an office party gift compared to 58% of the rest of the workforce. User ID: 78199390 United States 11/25/2019 11:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How about learning to manage money? I put aside money each month for Christmas. I have a budget and know what I'll spend. I also allow for the extra things that come up over the holidays...gift exchanges (although my coworkers we have all decided no gifts between us) , hostess gifts, etc. Sometimes if I see something nice throughout the year, I may think it would make a nice gift for someone I may pick it up. Yes, I have a small stash for this. Habits I learned from my mother growing up. I'm not caught off guard when holidays roll around. If those idiots want to cancel Christmas, then let them cancel it for themselves, but as far as me, my friends and family, we will continue Christmas. And those little turds can then cry they didn't get gifts. |
