Please consider, even assuming that there was some kind of "peace" by mutual deterrence between the NATO and Warsaw Pact, which was named Cold War, was wrong, as there was always a hot side of that in Latin America, Africa and Asia, particularly Vietnam, Korea, Angola, Afghanistan and other places. Because of this disadvantage the efforts to be taken are much higher than for the powers on the right place. It is not a miracle that Russia needs to spend only about $66 billion compared to $700 billion of the US-Empire and about $1000 billion of all NATO members, plus spending for "covert operations" and the spending of the hundreds of billions by Arab countries, which have to finance the imperial first attacked forces, which are framed as "Islamists". With growing resistance, the imperial forces have to multiply their efforts to keep the balance.

The land of poker bluffers dreamed of playing on the Grand Chessboard, according Zbigniew Brzezinski, the notorious hater of Russia of Polish origin. He and Henry Kissinger and many other imperialists drove the USA into a quagmire. After some deceiving "success stories", particularly the blocking of Soviet Union in Iran and its defeat in Afghanistan, these "strategists" were drunk of their victories and lost the connection with the reality.
