Using a firewall, a few quick tips
If you're using a mobile device I highly suggest you get a no root firewall app.

If you are on PC you should also be using a firewall to control which traffic is coming and going.

Mobile users: There are options for pre filters and post filters. If you do not want anyone connecting to you then add this post filter:

192.*.*.*

(Exactly like that, with the asterisks which account for any number in their place)

Set the ports to 80 and another entry with port 443
Make sure it is set to blocking that traffic

The firewall will block ALL traffic to and from that address which is your device directly.

Well I went to biblehub.com and I couldn't connect because it wanted to connect to 192.168.whatever. I don't know why that is, but I added a pre filter that allowed the address it wanted to connect to 192.168.whatever specifically.

The pre filters see which addresses get a pass, and the post filters say "everything else gets a block".

Like this:

Pre filter: 192.168.2.2 gets a pass
But post filter block 192.168.everything.else

On the flip side, Imgur app makes lots of connections to the 192.168.*.* address but even while being blocked does not interfere with the app at all.

Get used to using firewalls, get to know them, they're good for keeping your data usage down as well.

Hence the advice to get to know how they work.

Setting a port means where it asks you which port that you fill it in with a number. Why 80 and 443 is because those are the ones the internet is using to connect with you. They could be any number, so their meaning is irrelevant at this point, but it's necessary to block the connection at the right port obviously.

Pre filters:
(Example for pre filter)
Address: 192.168.2.2
Port: 80

Post filters:
Address: 192.*.*.*
Port: 80
Address: 192.*.*.*
Port: 443

I'm not an expert, just trying to help.

Re: Using a firewall, a few quick tips
192.x.x.x is reserved private address space, which means nothing connects to it directly. It has to use NAT to get out to the public internet. From there, a specific dynamically assigned port is used to get traffic back from the sites and services you visit.

Blocking your own internal IP address accomplishes nothing but making it harder for you to use your device.

Also, nothing can randomly connect to your private IP space because it's not routable across the public internet.

Why does Imgur app keep trying to connect to 192, for what possible reason, and when blocked works fine, but biblehub.com won't work unless specifically allowed to pass?

I have all 192 traffic blocked and I am able to do everything except connect to biblehub.com without the specific pass filter.

Get a fire wall that can do Anti-spoof Checking.

Leave windows firewall as is. Filter your connection through a router that has other settings. It'll seem like you're not even online.

It goes like this:

Your Device (192.168.x.x) ---> NAT ---> Imagur (port 80 or 443)

Then:

Imagur ---> your PUBLIC IP address ---> NAT ---> Your Device (192.168.x.x on a randomly assigned port your device picked)

===

What do you mean that Imgur keeps trying to connect to your 192.168.x.x address?

If you have the app open, it will keep communicating with it because of something called websockets. Once you have a connection with their servers, they use websockets to send updates about their service back to you. Like, new images or likes/follows/new comments/whatever..

If you exit the app or close the browser tab, it stops communicating.

Thanks Boaty. Maybe one day I'll understand a bit better, I just don't like all those unnecessary connections. I block ad server connections from the app as well as third party connections.
