A band of the wind storm is to hit the Idaho panhandle tonight. We are expecting 45+ mph winds and cold temps. I spent the day prepping for power outage. I live on a forest ridge. Trees start falling at 25 mph winds. This one has me on edge surrounded by tall trees. Wood stoves are a pain in high winds, it blows the smoke back down the chimney into the house.

Roads and mountain passes are a huge mess right now. We have sideways snow falling with the wind. Stay warm & safe fellow Oregonians.

You think today's storm on the California and Oregon coast is bad check out this storm about 5 minutes into the video that could potentially be coming to the West Coast around December 11.

Category 4 hurricanes force storm could be coming to the west coast around the 11tg of December. Which would make today seem like a fair weather day for the west coast.

PEAK GUSTS so far from the 2019 Oregon/California Bomb Cyclone:

106 mph at Cape Blanco
70 mph at Crescent City
70 mph at Gold Beach
58 mph at Medford (inland)
74 mph close to Brookings

A Blizzard Warning has just been issued for the S. Oregon Cascades, and the winds will really start to ramp up inland about now. Medford has already passed HWW criteria. Pressure at Gold Beach as at 976 mb as the storm starts moving closer. Should continue into early morning in many areas, with very heavy snow in the mountains (maybe 10-18 inches of snow as far north as Mt. Hood in terms of mountain snowfall-- they've already received 10-20 inches today).

So basically like the Hanukkah Eve windstorm of 2006. Fun times. Was without power for 7 days. The wind was so bad, it sounded like a freight train all night long. A tree also fell on our roof too.

Wonder what the peak sustained wind at Cape Blanco has been? Category 1 hurricane I believe begins at 75 mph sustained. So there's probably a pretty good chance the sustained winds have reached hurricane force at Cape Blanco today.

Personal Report from Humboldt county

Wind is intense. Surprised we have electeicity. Saw some lightning, no thunder. Was out in town earlier. Saw a few trees knocked over. Really hoping a telephone pole doesnt take out electric or broadband.

Looks like max sustained winds at cape Blanco were 85 mph, gusts of course to 106 according to the national weather service office in Medford. Putting it well above the threshold for hurricane force. Keep in mind they measure hurricanes by sustained winds not gusts. Of course even though this did reach hurricane force they won't actually call it a hurricane.

We spent 300 bucks on a chimney cap that is supposed to stop those back drafts during blizzards.

Didn't get an acid test storm the past two winters, but hope it works well when we do. Call a woodstove store and ask about it.

sooo. is this a repeat of the columbus day storm that hit in the 70's? oregon gets hit with similar storms about every 10 years for a bad one. 70mph winds are not unheard of for a normal winter storm, but columbus day storm was effectively a hurricane and hit everyone pretty hard all the way into portland and beyond. i wasn't born quite yet, but i remember some strong storms growing up here, 50+mph gusts. had a feeling we were going to get them this year for some reason.

What's an MB? In KS it's windy as fuck. It always drops 30 degrees. Every night.

It's always the same. It's dry and warm. Then it get windy and clouds. Rains then snows then 70. That's why there are tornadoes.

I SECOND that sentiment! (I'm in mountains of NW Montana
and we have some serious HIGH WIND WARNINGS up on our
weather stations--not calling for a blizzard yet, but we
are a resort town and they always lay low on the "bad weather
at HOLIDAYS reports so people will still come up here! lol!

I'm going to watch this. Thanks for the heads-up...looks
BAD.
