Where I'm at, I'm airing out today. Keeping all windows closed Thursday-Sun. Opening back up Monday only. Closing back up Tues and on until I get updated wind forecast.

During closed window times will minimize going outdoors/public.

Although Wind direction is favorable Sun, it could be blowing airborne chemicals back down from the day before.

Houston area people should do their Black Friday shopping at home online.

Friday is the worst day, winds coming from due East. Blowing that chemical air straight from plant into Houston.


Wind is something you should be aware of for preparedness in general. Are you up-wind or down-wind of a disaster area? Something authorities fail to mention many times. You could be 5 miles away and up-wind and be fine or 50 miles away down-wind and be screwed.

Rubber is an essential wartime resource.
Its not as obvious as say oil or iron or copper as being needed to supply an army- but dare I say that without it everything from tires to industrial controls diaphragms to gasmasks depend on it.
Hmmm.....

The oil refinery where I live exploded in 2008. It shook the house so hard we had crooked pictures and the septic system collapsed ($4k!!). It looked like an atomic mushroom cloud. Miraculously no one was killed!

They had not had an explosion or fire in 35 years and then

The feedstock butadiene is very volatile and reactive, and difficult to handle. This was not sabotage. If someone wanted to take out rubber production, there are better opportunities on the Texas Gulf Coast. This is just an unfortunate accident that is hard to mitigate at the present time.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston fire crews have contained a phosphorous leak at the Lanxess chemical plant on the King Street extension which caused a brief shelter-in-place order for residents in the area Wednesday morning.
Just after 12:20 a.m., the department received a call for a fire alarm at the plant. When crews arrived on scene, Lanxess personnel advised there was a phosphorous leak that had caused a fire.

The site will remain closed until Monday and the company will be in charge of cleanup.
He added larger quantities of phosphorous can act as an irritant to the eyes and lungs. There was also a chlorine release at the site back in May.
