...If you're referring to Cook's voyages, then the actual explanation is he didn't just circumnavigate Antarctica. He made many detours mapping various islands, backtracking, and resupplying. [ link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] Note that each had many detours and also included travel to and from England. But others have circumnavigated it. There are cruises that do so and a regular sailing race. None of those take as long as it should on the mythical flat Earth map. Quoting: LHP598 THE SAIL RACE DOES NOT CIRCUMNAVIGATE ANTARTICA IT GOES FROM SOUTH AFRICA TO AUSTRALIA Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77891168 Not what this site says. [ link to www.acronautic.com] WHY ARE THERE NO AIRLINE FLIGHTS FROM SOUTH AMERICA
TO SOUTH AFRICA
OR FROM SOUTH AFRICA DIRECT TO AUSTRALIA
THEY ALL GO TO DUBAI
THAT'S BECAUSE THAT IS THE SHORTEST WAY
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77891168 Why do you lie? they only go through Dubai if you choose an airline with hubs in Dubai. Just found a flight on South African Airways, flight 280 on Dec 9 from Johannesburg to Perth nonstop, 9 hours 25 minutes. Found another on Qantas from Johannesburg to Sydney, flight 64 also on Dec 9, 11 hours 45 minutes. So that makes you a liar on South Africa to Australia. For South America to South Africa, looking at the same day, found nonstop from Sao Paulo to Johannesburg, Latam Airlines 8058, 8 hrs 45 minutes. So no, through Dubai is NOT the shortest way. Quoting: LHP598 SAN PAULO IS THE SAME LATITUDE AS DUBAI NICE TRY Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77891168 Wrong. Dubai is about 25 degrees NORTH. Sao Paulo is about 23 degrees SOUTH. Over 48 degrees latitude separation. Why do you lie?
