BREAKING! Super Typhoon Kammuri heading towards Manila! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 76759009 United States 11/28/2019 02:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I lived there 7 years... had to deal with many westerners that were charged with sex crimes... only a couple were American. Missionaries from a sect of a well known “church”. I was not convinced they were committing sex crimes, as charged... that was probably the plan. They were clearly trafficking in children and very unapologetic assholes. They were rudely extradited to the USA where they were already facing similar but unrelated charges - and convicted. Back out on the streets surely doing the same shit. They had made many threats to find me (over being rudely removed from the Philippines) when I got back to the USA - still waiting. Still hoping. As someone who has been there, I wish the filipino people, filipinas in particular, weren't naive about white westerners. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 76909798 United States 11/28/2019 02:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Currently it is a Category 1 Typhoon. Forecasts call for it to become a Super Typhoon (winds of at least 150 mph). This would be a high end category 4 storm. But it could definitely strengthen more than that and end up being a category 5 Typhoon (sustained winds of greater than 156 mph). OH..IT'S STILL COOKING....GOTTA WAIT FOR THIS DHOOM..TANKS! WHAT DAY IS IT FORECAST 2 B THERE?...! |

Off topic but did they really have Kenny Rogers Roasters over there? And how did it compare to the original? I never ate at Kenny Rogers Roasters in US, but the one in Angeles was disappointing. TGIF's was better. I am surprised how many Shakey's pizza franchises there are here. As a young boy, my family often ate at the original Shakey's pizza in Sacramento. They went out of business in the mid-90's from what I remembers. They were comparable to the Shakey's in Sacramento area. I used to eat at their lunch buffet's and loved their mojo potatoes. (OP) User ID: 77776495 Philippines 11/28/2019 05:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you're flying into NAIA or Clark, you should be ok. For those who not familiar with Filipino culture here is a quick summary. Traditional Filipinas are not unlike Western women 50 yrs ago. They seek a good and honest man who could provide for a stable family. Not unlike the traditional 'nuclear family' in the US during the 1950's/60's. Most of them are located 'out in the province', equivalent to the US mid-west. However, many of the younger Filipinas are more westernized and seek wealth and fun at any means necessary. These are usualy the KTV bar girls found throughout Manila, Angeles, Subic and Cebu City. Many white dudes in their 40's-60's come here to hookup with these 18-25 yo Filipinas. To each their own. I enjoy having a close family like when I grew up in the US during the 70's-80's. Personally, there is no way I'd subject my kids to Kommiefornia's indoctrination camps and tranny storytime at the library. Yes, here they have "bakla" (gays/tranny's), but they don't force it upon children like in the US. The public/private schools here teach standard subjects, culture, patriotism and Christian morals. Yes, thankfully the GLP Effect is working! It's started weakening compared to the USN JTWC earlier and GFS model forecasts. However, it is still a dangerous storm that can cause extreme flooding. There was some controversy with the DOST-PAGASA (Philippines version of NOAA) on Fakebook posts. They use different standards than that of the USN JTWC for measuring tropical storms. Many were complaining that they hadn't learned anything from Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. Their 'warnings' weren't strong enough to convince people to evacuate. It resulted in a high loss of lives. Better to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Last Edited by Agent MIB on 11/29/2019 10:33 PM You are born with the truth, then taught a lie. |

I know of many NGO's and missionaries work in the Philippines. It's true that many NGO's are used as cover by some for human trafficking. President Duterte is no fan of the RCC either, as he was allegedly molested by a priest when he was young. Given that, I know that recent changes to Philippines Bureau of Immigration have increased cooperation with Western governments to deny known foreign sex offenders entry. In addition, foreign 'volunteers' (ie: missionaries) could be considered as 'workers' and require appropriate visa, not simply a tourist visa. I believe I know to which 'sect' you refer is same recently in news with incident in Mexico. They are very active in Pacific Island nations. I was even surprised to see a 'missionary' way out here in province in my barangay (neighborhood) riding a bike with his Filipino sponsor. They were heading towards a squalor area. I simply wished him a safe journey. Since I am a permanent resident, my volunteer work with the government rescue and safety organizations is acceptable. In fact, I was asked by management (and governor) how much for my services. My reply was, no charge I'm a volunteer. I only asked them to assist me with transportation, food and boarding if needed. I also want to take this opportunity to change many people's misconceptions about Filipinos. Where I live, they see very few 'kanos' (white foreigners). However, everyone treats me with respect and kindness. I do the same in return. There is rampant poverty, but most people are friendly, kind and have pride (faith, hope). Sometimes, I'm approached by street people for pera (pocket change) while shopping in town. For street kids, I refuse because they often use them for internet cafes. Instead, I will go into a McDo or Jollibee and come give them food. 25-30 pesos ($0.50 USD) buys them a piece of chicken or burger. For the elderly I give them 5-10 pesos in coins that I usually have in my pocket. Here is a video of how Filipinos treated a destitute American (with mental issues) in Metro Manila. The area he was located is less than 10 blocks from the US Embassy. Last Edited by Agent MIB on 11/29/2019 11:12 PM You are born with the truth, then taught a lie. |
