A pole shift in the 21st century, well, sure.

We're getting closer and closer to 2020, IF, and I do mean, IF, a pole shift would be happening in this century... our aircraft, and, yes, the birds...

1. The birds would be going 'apeshit.' (I mean that in the nicest sense, of course.)

2. Aircraft and their loads would be... '/heavier/'.

There is NO pole shift happening any time soon.

A pole shift could be a metaphor for a magnetic shift that only occurs on the astral/mental plane, thereby causing no physical harm. It could also mean a shift in dominance. The Satanic South no longer has the upper hand, and the Hyperborean North gains pre-eminence.

I like the way 2020 means full spectrum vision in our culture. If reality is encoded with messages, that may be a subtle clue. Then you have Disc-Closure.
