This has been in your faces for a minute now. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72497887 MAGA Also consider the possibility that this "news" is intended to make folks think twice before speaking freely. Anonymous Coward User ID: 76767630 United States 12/02/2019 02:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Every pc and cellphone is spyware, but oh no, the tv's!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76767630 Seriously, everyone I know has smart TV's now, they dominate every store. The best we can do is learn how to disable the mic, camera and wi-fi. Remove the implements and be happy. Thats what i have done with laptops for at least 10 yrs. Now. I open the bezel and disconnect the microphone and camera immediately. Our flat screen is old so not worried about it but we will need to upgade when it finally takes a shit. So how hard is it to open up a new smart tv and disable that shit, anyone here done that yet??? On the back of mine, it's just a few screws and panels.. Lay it face down, grab a screw gun, and within moments you'll know what's up.. with the mic(s) and camera. Wifi could be more difficult. |

User ID: 73265267 United States 12/02/2019 11:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My Samsung 32" TV is now going on 12 years old. I don't think it has spy gadgets in it. These TV's should become very valuable in the future. People will try desperately to get away from being spied on. New cars are the worst. Anyone who buys a brand new home with "the internet of things" is a strange bird. A new home and a new car today .... plus a new cell phone.... just about wraps it up. You are TOTALLY spied on and tracked. I will keep my 70 year old home, my 37 year old car, and my old TracFone. Can't understand why else they would do it. Quoting: coyoteblue Because the simple fact that all of this information is getting out that they may want hidden, they come out every now and then and tell us something we already know to make it seem like they are the Good guys. Anonymous Coward User ID: 78087481 Canada 12/03/2019 08:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Which TVs have cameras? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78211172 I haven't seen any TVs with cameras? Is this just some fear-mongering crappy article? They are starting to push them into the market now. Facebook has a new product called "Portal" that lets you facetime through your tv. They are trying to normalize the idea of cameras being in your home. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77874552 United Kingdom 12/03/2019 08:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Smart Meters are even worse. They know when you are at home, out, put the Light on,put the Kettle.Watch television.Do the washing. On the face of it all looks innocent. Think if you had ulterior motives. This kind of information is priceless. For instance a Cold Caller would know exactly when to Call. A burglar would know when you are not at home. |

User ID: 77766001 United States 12/03/2019 08:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ...That's the key takeaway from the FBI's Portland field office, which just ahead of some of the biggest shopping days of the year posted a warning on its website about the risks that smart TVs pose. Quoting: Digital mix guy "Beyond the risk that your TV manufacturer and app developers may be listening and watching you, that television can also be a gateway for hackers to come into your home. A bad cyber actor may not be able to access your locked-down computer directly, but it is possible that your unsecured TV can give him or her an easy way in the backdoor through your router," wrote the FBI. The FBI warned that hackers can take control of your unsecured smart TV and in worst cases, take control of the camera and microphone to watch and listen in. Active attacks and exploits against smart TVs are rare, but not unheard of. Because every smart TV comes with their manufacturer's own software and are at the mercy of their often unreliable and irregular security patching schedule, some devices are more vulnerable than others. Earlier this year, hackers showed it was possible to hijack Google's Chromecast streaming stick and broadcast random videos to thousands of victims.
