I've heard the tales. I've not been there. But I'm not the one to have a debate with on this, as I'm only offering you the information. I have no attachment to it one way or the other. As for pictures of the wreckage I would invite you to take them with caution. I'm guessing nobody has gone and read the article? I might discuss this with people who have clearly read the article but otherwise, if you're not interested, neither am I. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73285116 "The ship left port as the Edmund Fitzgerald and arrived at port as the Arthur M. Anderson." As a single sentence it sounds far fetched, but in the context of the whole piece, a lot less so. Still all very fishy, as usual. |

I remember it all too well as that storm almost killed me also. That pdf article posted has so many mistakes in it I don't know where to go after giving the correct date. But there were problems with the Fitz and they may have been known that those problems could have doomed her from making it through such a storm. Personally I do think she bottomed out on the reef. One thing I'll never forget is the calls that went out over the emergency frequencies at the Cloverland power plant office as I thawed out that early evening after my long walk to safety through that ice and snow Hurricane wind, it took weeks for my frost bit face to heal yet I was one of the lucky ones as 20+ hunters and fishermen also died that day Nov. 10th 1975 in that storm. Farewell American Samoa, the "last stop of today and just a stones throw from tomorrow"and with that said and done I stood up, standing at the end of the day and walked boldly onward into tomorrow and to the given day of rest. |

Hmmm. Being more or less neutral on the topic, I find myself uncommitted to the conspiracy theory. The "information" in the article seems to be hard-wired to the internet, which would provide questionable links like the pictures of the victims etc. More cross-checking and deep diving (pun intended) than I care to do. Miles has maybe gotten a little lax in separating fact from speculation. Here's one for you to think about: How does a 728 foot Ore Carrier (The Fitz) become a 647 foot Freighter (Anderson) over night? That had to be one hella big chopshop to do the work so quickly! While we were in there we saw a man and his young son and my mom started talking with them and the dad told my mom that he was supposed to be on that ship that day but called in sick, and he brought his little son to the museum to explain it to him. The boy was like 5 or 6 years old. They must have been crisis actors back in "77. |

Storm predictions in 1975 were in their infancy as well, this one caught everyone by surprise. Also the waves on the lakes in high winds are vastly different than the oceans. Waves are higher due to the shallow waters and after several hours waves are rebounding back in different directions from islands and shorelines. I saw a documentary showing the waves on superior and Michigan develop into an almost square checkerboard pattern where you can't point the bow against the oncoming waves. Some of the Fitzgeralds cargo hatches also dislodged and water came in. She bottomed out in 80 feet of water where she should not have been with her stern and the hull snapped flooding the ship. Sad story. |

My grade 8 music teacher was a psycho whore who told us a lot of blatant lies, but this one had the ring of truth: She said she had "dated" Gordon Lightfoot, and that "he was a crude man." When I got older, I realized that "dated" meant "fucked" and "he was a crude man" meant "anal". |
