User ID: 8080014 United States 12/03/2019 05:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, your not very bright are you? No one thought the world would end, professionals took precautions because no one knew what could potentially happen. Now, go back to your safe place and let the adults talk about world events. OPs link kind of disproves your statement. LOL. NOT if you consider the source! PEOPLE magazine is about one step up from supermarket tabloids and is notorious for doing kneepad articles about any celeb who will ante up a few thou' for the priviledge. Insightful journalism it never HAS been. Further, consider this: there are those who would be so thrilled to appear in a rag like that they would eagerly answer the most leading questions a reporter would toss their way. I'm not saying for one second that there weren't people who were downright obsessed with Y2K - those dozens of GLP articles at the time refuted that in a heartbeat. What I am saying is that those who went overboard are the same types who suffer from OCD and will react similarly every time they are triggered. Rational folks recognized the unknown threat and took appropriate counter measures. And didn't have to buy toilet paper for the next six months like I did. Which did no harm whatsoever. I wonder how many were Boy Scouts and others who simply like to "be prepared"? After all.. isn't that why we carry life, health, car, homeowner's or other forms of insurance - prepping for a day that may never come [except the life insurance, of course!]? But, nobody calls that hysteria. Last Edited by GSB/LTD on 12/03/2019 05:37 PM |

What is was was that all the computers and computer assisted objects would not function because of a calendar flaw due to 88 columns on an old IBM punch card. The world wasn't actually going to end. OP is a poopie head. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |

I never did get my dried beans and rice. Still waiting for them to go on sale. Quoting: jt210 As its says $100 Billion cost in the US alone. [link to people.com (secure)] I have a friend who broke into the programming industry by sitting at a computer for 2 years for a big telcom company changing dates from 2 digit to 4 digit numbers. Yeah, there were tons of software glitches. Our accounting software didn't recognize the 20 in the date column and values were getting shifted. |

And apparently all of the problems that still happened. Multiple reactors going into shutdown and a ton of databases going down at midnight, including many police departments, just to name a few. |
