I actually hoped something would happen to crash global computing systems just to prove how stupid mankind was to invest it's existence so deeply in the hope that it never could.

While no rational person really believed Y2K would suddenly plunge us all into a second Dark Ages, it did compell many of us to reevaluate our personal dependancy upon an always-fragile supply chain and as such we built up pantries as a hedge against any form of disruptions and, and I was one of those people.

The experience didn't hurt me one bit, and I came way wiser and better able to handle an unexpected food shortage with my still well-stocked home. In addition, I have new knowledge/skills I never would've explored had it not been for that "hysteria" - and, I've saved hundreds of dollars by buying essential goods in small bulk quantities while onsale - this hedge against higher prices will always be a win-win.
