If there are magnetic currents at the poles, then why do Soviet and American nuclear missiles have trajectories over the north pole? Wouldn't the electromagnetic energy cause havoc with the guidance systems? Especially guidance systems from the '50's and 60's?

Sounds fishy the government would want to close off all that area when nobody could live there anyways.
