Trump lost the election by over 3,000,000 votes, which is considerably large margin. Since this is an undeniable fact. he has never had mandate to lead this country with less than 48% of the popular vote.
The only reason he weaseled his way in the whitehouse is because the electoral college system of electing the president is seriously flawed. Electoral votes within a given state are supposed to reflect it's population, but in 2016 this simply was not true... in some cases the numbers of electoral votes were out of line by >20% in rural areas as opposed to populated areas , in other words 1,000,000 votes in California were worth the same number of electoral votes as 500,000 in Nevada, which I think is a very serious flaw for constitutional republic that elects it's leaders by popular vote.

Another very serious flaw with the electoral college is in states like new York where everywhere but Albany and New York city are conservative, the big cities always prevent the rural res from being represented at all, every time.

the election should be based entirely on popular voteby voters who are qualified to vote based on literacy, knowledge of the constitution and citizenship within this country ALONE, period. This is the third time a president which did not get a majority who was very bad for this country got in the whitehouse.
