Fact(s);

1.The German Army suffered far more losses in 6 weeks fighting against France (primarily) than against Russia for the first 6 weeks even though the forces involved were much larger in the east.

2. The Luftwaffe lost 10 times more aircraft on day one of the Western campaign versus the first day of Barbarossa. The RAF had nothing to do with that.

3. About 2 million young Frenchmen were in POW camps for more than 4.5 YEARS.

4. The German Army was on its very best behavior in France. Germany had great hopes for two years that France would become a full fledged partner in the Axis. Any soldier misbehaving would have had a quick trip to the Eastern Front--possibly in a penal battalion--not good for ones life.

5. There were far more cases of rape by Americans within 4 months of breaking out of Normandy than there was under four years of German occupation.

6. For multiple reasons there were countless thousands of actual relationships between French and Germans--not counting prostitution.

7. After the war, many French women were publicly humiliated, heads shaved, beaten, sometimes to death because they actually dared to have a relationship with a polite German boy.

8. Things happen for a reason--including cowards beating women when it is safe to do so.

It was assumed by the Germans that Dresden had been chosen by the Allied powers as a post war HQ location and thus spared the devastation brought against the rest of the nation. 90% of buildings in Germany were either damaged or totally destroyed by bombing--3.7 million dead civilians from bombing.

By February 1945 Dresden had adsorbed hundreds of thousands of people from many different cites in Germany that had been reduced to ruble. Old people, women and children were crammed together in what was thought to be a safe place. It also seemed like a safe place to have the main hospitals of Army Group Center that was battling the Red Army in Slovakia and central Germany.

The air attacks raged for two days and nights. State of the art techniques were used to create firestorms. This was madness on an unsurpassed level--a war crime not of just that era, but all history. The Allies stated that only 135,000 people were burned up, but the actually count by the Germans at the time pegged it at more than 250,000 people. Non combatants would likely have been around 98 percent. Keep in mind the war was clearly ending in a short time--all that was left of Nazi Germany was east of the Rhine and west of the Oder--with a few other outlying areas.

Britain was bombing civilian targets in Germany. Due to allied terror bombing, close to 5-10 million German civilians where killed.

The USSR was about to invade Europe, the NAZI's caught them with their pants down.

Germany was in a no win situation during WW2.

Don't fight, be genocided by the Polish. Fight, be bombed and attacked by Britain with no real way to invade Britain or force Britain to the peace table.

Invade the USSR, and get terminally distracted from the North African and French theater of war. Don't invade and get run over by the USSR and genocided/mass murdered by Bolsheviks.
