Re: I'm a Master Mechanic! Ask me anything!
Best pickup without many integrated circuits.

Room in there to work on myself. Fairly uncomplicated.

Reliable once it's in good working order.

Which year? Brand?

Diesel or gas?

I'm not much of a wrench yet. Been working on old two-stroke yamahas to get my feet wet and knuckles bruised.

Oh, what to look for in a body, too. What's a deal-breaker? What's not?

I don't mind putting money in to make it reliable. Could afford new. Don't want.

It doesn't get any simpler or more reliable that an early to mid '90's Dodge with a 12v Cummins in it.

What are the symptoms of a failing variable speed transmission? (old prius) It's fine but I expect it to be next to go.
 Quoting: syncro

The Prius "transmission"is as simple as it gets. It's just a planetary connected to both the motors and the engine. Even Taxi drivers can't kill them.

Just change the oil in it once in a while.

2007 Mazda3

After turning right, the turn signal thingy doesn’t return to its original position and my right turn indicator light will keep blinking until I manually return the turn signal thingy to its original position.

Only happens with the right turns.

Thanks in advance hf

Sir I have one for you. I just rebuilt my 351 Windsor in my 84 Ford F350. It has a Miss in it that we cannot find. My neighbor works on cars for a living and he can't find it we have tried changing the plug wires he has checked the intake with a propane torch to see if it would pick up speed nothing what do you think.

The Fords had different firing orders. The firing order is determined by the camshaft. I wonder if the cam was changed to one with a different firing order?

Re: I'm a Master Mechanic! Ask me anything!
Working on a 2012 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The AC compressor bearing came apart and seized, destroying the drive belt. Replaced the compressor and the belt. Seems there was a few strands of kevlar wrapped around the power steering pump shaft and that ate up the seal. So, in goes the new PS pump. Everything in that engine bay is packed incredibly tight (huge engine, small space). ALl fasteners are torx or inverted torx.

Where can I get a set of swivel torx?

cheers

Re: I'm a Master Mechanic! Ask me anything!
So I've got a 1971 Brock Mode 4, with the hunchback. So anyway, in the engine bay, there's this returned ramulator for the fixed-it-sensor leading to the by-pass fuel/air mixture rod, but the grease ingress boot-mucker has blocked the incoming mixture from the pump end. So i was wondering, do i need to carry out a Timmerman pressure test on the valve inlet side, or do i have to remove all of the fouling assembly in order to look into the space provided?

Re: I'm a Master Mechanic! Ask me anything!
07 Civic with some sort of slow battery drain! I've had it to Honda and the shop down the street both gave it a clean bill of health. I put a new battery in, attachments/posts are clean and on tight, alternator checks out. I pulled fuse on radio and amp as they have been acting up. I cannot find any lights on at night including truck light. I drive car for 3 weeks or so and I'll come out to a dead battery, WTF? I now charge it weekly and I'm fine but somethings not right? thanks!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69153735

Are your brake lights staying on? Hondas were notorious for the plastic button on the pedal to break and the brake switch would stay on.

Fine if you won't help take this thing to gapplebee's.

I have question about an gen 2 sbc lt1 vette that is missing on 5 and 7. Have replaced the opti-spark twice. Injectors are firing, replaced the injectors, replaced coil and module, has compression, has spark, removed head and surfaced (was slightly warped), ground the valves new gasket. The cam is opening the valves, no wires in the harness are broken, has new good gas, still no fire.

Re: I'm a Master Mechanic! Ask me anything!
I really need a solution to this problem. Have a MB Sprinter van with a hydraulic actuated gear selector. The hydraulic pump is a brushed motor and as with all brushed motors, the carbon brushes wear down. At that point it is impossible to select gears and the vehicle is a no go nowhere. Is it possible to manually engage a gear so that the vehicle can be moved? The last time this happened was in the inner city at rush hour and it was not pretty. Any ideas?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78099421

It's not possible with that unit. I'd schedule a replacement interval based on the first one's failure.
