What? Are you saying you're SS went from $700 something to $300 something? How did that happen?

The reason they give is because my wife withdrew money from her 401K to pay off debt. How do I live on 330.00 a month?

You didn't go the correct route; legally you can declare bankruptcy once every 7 years. Why would you take a secure asset and pay off an unsecured debt?

Every single one of my elderly family members got a letter in the mail yesterday. It said they got an increase in SS starting January, due to the COLA....cost of living allowance.

Its all Medicare related. I used to get over 900 until medicare started deducting bot my free healthcare.

The 1.6% cost of living raise is figured into it already, Sheesh!

I got my letter [last Monday] the same as your family members regarding the 1.6% COLA increase.

And, something just isn't right about the OP's assertion. I don't understand how his wife's 401K can affect his personal SocSec account unless he deliberately intertwined them in which case he has only himself -AND HIS WIFE- to blame.

She had no Idea they would go after me on top of the huge Income tax bill she also got.

Hmm, during 8 years of Obama, they didn't get it every year. I think they only got it 3 X or less.

Yeah, my father didn't inform SS that he didn't want Medicare, since he goes to the VA. Since he didn't inform them he didn't want Medicare, they forced him to take it and they take about 200 dollars out of his every month.

I'm confused. I'm retired and draw Social Security. I also withdraw from my retirement savings to supplement the Social Security I receive.

I've never had them say that what I withdraw will in any way impact what I get from them monthly.

Is this a retirement benefit, a disability related payment or ??? you're receiving?

Medicare is not and never was free

Part A costs approx $135 a year

Part B that pays for Doctor’s and excess hospital bills over the 80% costs $100-$200 a MONTH depending on the state and county you live in - For the EXACT same coverage

Part D (for drugs) is a fairly recent addition from Bush era early 2000’s

Medicare Advantage is a DISADVANTAGE HMO that dies not Cover doctor if choice or away from home care except life-threatening conditions . The sicker you get the greater the DISADVANTAGE

Apparently! Now I know. I was told I can earn up to 17,000 a year. I earned around 1000 in doing a few handy man jobs.

there is a distinct difference among the categories but the BASIC shyte remains reporting household INCOMES to THEM and yer wife did increase the household $$$ (you are direct due to spouse) ,they don't care WHY etc

She drew a huge amount to pay off some of our debt so she too can retire. I agree she went about it wrong but she did not know. Sorry I brought it up. Maybe someone will not make the same mistake.

He isnot "ON" Social Security. What he is on is called something else, but the money is being stolen out of the Social Security account.

Medicare Part A is FREE. Part B only costs $136/month.
