I worked on Reagan's Star Wars projects in the 1980s and on advanced aerospace tech in the 1990s. Retired in 2002 so my knowledge is out of date.

However, I saw tech in the 1980s over 30 years ago that was mind blowing.

How about a solid state energy weapon that could be easily deployed in space? It did not require the large, vibrating power sources of a laser. Not only that, it did not have to actually contact the target. Simply a near miss would melt the offending spacecraft.

We called that one the Photon Torpedo.

How about an interceptor that was created using 3D printing that weighed less than one kilogram and could be fired out of a rail gun at 100,000 Gs? We actually had the beginning of that tech way back then.

I would bet that we can now produce an entire solid state interceptor that is autonomous and weighs about one gram. It is totally within the realm of our technology.

Even one gram hitting your spacecraft at orbital velocities means destruction.

There was more. One spacecraft could slowly disable an enemy satellite without them understanding how we did such a thing.

BTW, China is already building their space force with anti-satellite weapons.

I would not be surprised if they were stationing nukes in high orbit ready for a surprise strike. We would have no warning of such since they would reenter from directly overhead.

We either beat them or suffer Pearl Harbor in outer space. Without our satellites providing recon, comms, GPS, etc. we will lose a regional war.

We don't have a choice in this matter.

My dad was in the air force in the 50's and stationed with a mobile radar unit in the southwest. He routinely saw shit he was ordered to keep quiet about. His unit often received 'intelligence' that strange things might be flying over and to track them but not report them.

When I was a teen in the 70's some of his buddies from the unit visited him. They got really drunk and started talking about the stuff they saw.

I asked if aliens were coming to Earth from somewhere else. Dad told me it was none of my business and to shut the hell up.

At apogee the amount of energy to change the orbital path is negligible. The reentry would be at a very steep angle, nearly straight down.
