Christmas Giveaway Thread for those in need 2019 (final update OP page 14)

This thread really demonstrates what an amazing community GLP can truly be. I've only been a 'paid' member on GLP for a few months, but I must say the Private Message (PM) feature available to the 'paid' members is by far one of the greatest benefits to membership. I have met (and continue to meet) really cool people because of the PM system.

That said, I would also like to suggest that for those of us in the USA that we can all do a little something to help the very needy by dropping a few bucks in the Salvation Army Red Kettle this time of year. I'm not sure if the Salvation Army is active globally with their annual Christmas Red Kettle Campaign, but this time of year, we see and hear them clanging their bell, in front of grocery stores, and Big Box stores, and just about anywhere where there is lots of foot traffic and people have a few bucks of cash on them.

I've done a little bit of research into the Salvation Army, and I was a non-profit executive at one time myself, and I can say that the Salvation Army probably uses their funds the most wisely and is thrifty with their funds. The Salvation Army helps so many people who are on the bottom of the totem-pole in society. To be homeless, and have addiction issues, and/or mental health issues...this time of year? This time of year Christmas, is supposed to be so cheerful, but sadly it is more often than not simply depressing. We do need to remember that giving (if we can) is so much greater than receiving.

I know I feel better when I throw a few bucks into a Red Kettle. I know that money will be well spent. I'm also open to giving a random stranger who is asking for money a few bucks if my Spirit directs me to do so. I'll even give a person a ride if I am so moved. We really must help each-other when we can, and not stand back and video our world like it is a movie that we are somehow watching. We are in a strange way in a movie (call it the Matrix) and we are the stars in our own play. We all have staring roles. The question is, what are you going to do with your time on the stage?

Military would make leave for that, so IDK. Plus, his battle buddies would help if necessary. Seems hinky. Just my own opinion. Something doesn't add up.

Even when I was stranded at one point, the cops helped me get home with a bus ticket. Told them I wasn't leaving their station until they sent me home. I didn't feel safe and that was the safest place to be.

I sat on their doorstep until they got tired of me.

I was blessed to have been able to earn my Bachelors degree. I have been helping needy families for the past 17 years. I lost my job last month after standing up for the POTUS. I was the only male worker there so I was already a figurative and literal target. Now that I’m out of there and have decompressed, I’m so blessed to have lost that job. It was horribly toxic and abusive and not worth the “great” health benefits. Our 19 year old is in college and just came home for Christmas break. It’s been very difficult trying to get through to them just how important that “stupid piece of paper” really is. These younger generations are so much more disconnected and isolated now thanks to the stupid phones/internet (same things that are supposedly “connecting” everyone and everything). It’s hard to encourage them out of that apathetic mindset when take for example, me,
despite having 17 years direct Professional experience under my belt helping others (and missing my own child’s childhood) oh and that bachelors degree, the best work I can find that has any form of benefits that will hire me pays $14 per hour. Yes I should’ve learned a trade.
It’s pretty sad how people half my age with zero real world experience get the jobs...Now that I’m on this side of the figurative fence...wow... I hear all of this talk on the internet about how college is a joke, no longer needed, etc... yet down here in the “real world”, what I am witnessing firsthand....you’re not even considered for a decent job without having a Master’s degree... seems what matters the most nowadays is not experience but who has the most “fancy letters” behind their last name.
If you’re not at Master’s degree level and/or bilingual in Spanish, you’re screwed slinging onion rings or delivering pizzas. The message being sent to the younger generations is just stay at home and live off of welfare and have as many children as possible, with multiple fathers, and you’ll get more “free” goodies. Not sure why I’m venting or what my point is.
