Re: Christmas Giveaway Thread for those in need 2019 (final update OP page 14)
I have a good friend who is in DIRE need. She is a lovely 26yr old single mom. She has always had to pinch pennies but has managed to get by for herself and her daughter up until a few months ago, when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The treatments have caused her to miss work bc she feels so sick.

I try to help her and when she is able to make it in to work, I do as much as I can for her on the downlow so the other coworkers don’t get mad that she’s not pulling her weight. They don’t seem to care that she has cancer and say if she can’t do the job than she should quit. People are dicks sometimes.

She’s been trying to hold it together, but yesterday broke down to tears and unburdened herself to me. She said that her situation had gotten so severe that she broke down and applied for food stamps and medical assistance for herself and her 6yr old daughter. She was DENIED! This for her was the straw that broke the camels back. She could barely speak through her tears. I am so angry. I see people on public assistance with name brand clothes and that live better than her. She doesn’t even have a couch or a kitchen table. She and her daughter eat in the bedroom that they share

She is worried, not only how they are going to get by, but also how she is going to pay for her treatments and what would happen to her daughter if she does. She feels so overwhelmed and alone.

I asked around and found her a couch and kitchen table and a little Christmas tree. My daughter has agreed to babysit for free when she can make it into work, and we are today going to try to get her some household goods: toothpaste, toilet paper, feminine products and some easy to fix meals for her daughter when she is feeling sick. Regretfully, the box will be meager bc I too am poor. I wish there was more I could do to help her. My heart is breaking for her bc she truly is one of the loveliest young ladies I have ever known and it hurts me to see her struggling like this, so despondent, scared and hopeless. Christmas presents for her daughter aren’t even in her radar bc she can’t even see that far beyond her panic.

Her situation is truly heartbreaking and I have felt so helpless bc she needs more than I can give. Then I saw this thread and I decided to reach out on her behalf.

Thank you, wind sage! I will try to set up an Amazon account for her and appreciate so much your intention to donate $25. It might take me a minute bc I’m not good at these things. I’ll let you know when it’s set up!

I can’t find the words to describe how the generosity displayed in this thread has impacted my heart and soul. I’ve been crying all day. Lol

Intermezzo, I am just confirming that my brother emailed you my Paypal account because he does not have one, and I would be purchasing the items on Amazon for him - and having them shipped to him via another family member, as he also does not have mail delivery. Thanks for everything u have done for everyone! <3

Hey. Idk what to say but I promise your kindness brought tears to my eyes. I’ll be signing up here after this as well now. Thank you a hundred times over you have no clue how much you just helped us(well I hope you do) God bless you friend and I can get that back to you In February for sure by mid February or so. Thank you so so much from the bottom of my heart. Usually I hate asking for help and I was that desperate this time. It’s wonderful to know such kind strangers still exist because in my day to day existence they don’t, and seeing some of the things I Have in my past has sometimes made bitterness my enemy as a Christian. Re: Christmas Giveaway Thread for those in need 2019 (final update OP page 14)
First I want to apologize for my absence on this thread the past pages.

It has been a hectic day though, with very emotional stories and requests both here and in email. I truly admire all of you who replied, not only for taking the courage to post here or email me, but also for the determination and strength you show toward the future, often in a situation that is very hard to coop with.

I also know that there are situations that are most likely definite health wise. That is for me already very hard to think of, so I can not even imagine how it must be for you who go through this time, knowing the outcome or the status quo. And yet you show positivism, encouragement, light. You are awesome and an example to so many, know that too.

At the moment we were able to help about 33 families with the funds we had available. Actually we did overspend quite a bit on the budget, but that's okay. I think it is an amazing and at the same time shocking number for our community here on GLP. I know it is just a tip of the iceberg, but it shows how much people struggle nowadays in so many different ways.

There are still about 15 people on the list, including those who posted up to this page. Thanks to the amazing contribution of some dear friends, who wish to remain anonymous, we will be able to also help them out. As soon as those funds arrive, Wednesday at the latest, we will make sure that list is cleared. But after that, with maybe a margin of 2 or 3, we really are out for this year.

If it were up to me, I would help everyone who struggles, not only at Christmas, but always. But I know I can't. You see so many sad situations that it is hard to quit spending. But I have to as well. I am just a guy who like everyone else needs to pay bills and get food on the table. And that's the danger of a thread like this, a heart like mine and a fixed budget. And I know that goes for all beautiful contributors as well.

So unfortunately the financial part has to stop somewhere and I can only promise that next year we will continue this tradition.

But don't let that keep you from showing love and compassion to those who need it. Like I said in the OP, help is not limited to finances. Words, music, a gesture, a card, a listening ear, everything helps, sometimes even more than money. So keep that going, on this thread, in this online world and in the real world. You can always pm me or send me and email at [email protected] as well if you feel the need to vent.

An eye for people really works miracles and it really is a win-win situation.

Merry Christmas to each and everyone of you and your loved ones. God Bless you all!

hf

I don’t have a paid membership & I am probably the least “tech savvy” 45yr old in the world. Lol! But I read threads here & love this site.
I am disabled and spend most of my time in bed. If you were to see me on “a good day” you wouldn’t know my troubles. Anyway, I’ve been feeling very defeated lately & I’m having a hard time accepting that this is how my life is supposed to be. I’ve been waiting over a year to get a referral to a top notch specialist in Boston(I’m in Illinois). Today I was/am laying in bed, feeling depressed & decided to occupy my mind for a bit on this site. I’m so glad and thankful I did. Seeing this thread has touched my heart & restored my hope. Of course, if I ever get the referral, I could use financial help to get there. But today I ask for prayers & well wishes that this renewed hope sticks around & that I am well enough to enjoy the holidays with family.
God bless all of you! Thank you for your selfless gifts to all who received them! You have made miracles happen! It’s amazing!!
My gosh, why am I crying?!?! Thank you all!💕💕

I moved to Chicago a couple months ago . Got a job from a friend of almost 20years washing dishes . A week ago Sunday I called in because I may have to have my pinky toe amputated . That night my friend, the head chef, got stabbed to death by our coworker , with a knife I've washed hundreds of times ,in the kitchen . I already had some rough PTSD so I REALLY can't go back to working there .
Now I find out the place I live is getting sold and I have 30 days to move .
Thankfully I found a couch to sleep on , about an hour away, and a prospective New job but I'm VERILY Scrooged till most likely February . Not one to ask for help ( I'm stubborn ) but I Need HELP .Thank You for HOPE .

Hidden disabilities are the worst! People can't see them and they tend to be very judgmental, and you're young to have this situation. Hang in there, and my family will pray for your health (physical and emotional) and yes, I know why you're crying...it's so good to hear about people who care for others. We get fed a steady diet of murder, arson, brutality and we believe that it's just the way the world is now.

Then along comes a thread like this and it renews our faith that not everyone is uncaring. Much thanks to Mezzo for his part in what is becoming a GLP ritual that heals.

I sympathize I have Celiac and due to immunocomplications from that I almost died in late 2014 from a necrotizing form of MRSA but people think celiac is a joke and that I’m a hypochondriac

Re: Christmas Giveaway Thread for those in need 2019 (final update OP page 14)
I was blessed to have been able to earn my Bachelors degree. I have been helping needy families for the past 17 years. I lost my job last month after standing up for the POTUS. I was the only male worker there so I was already a figurative and literal target. Now that I’m out of there and have decompressed, I’m so blessed to have lost that job. It was horribly toxic and abusive and not worth the “great” health benefits. Our 19 year old is in college and just came home for Christmas break. It’s been very difficult trying to get through to them just how important that “stupid piece of paper” really is. These younger generations are so much more disconnected and isolated now thanks to the stupid phones/internet (same things that are supposedly “connecting” everyone and everything). It’s hard to encourage them out of that apathetic mindset when take for example, me,
despite having 17 years direct Professional experience under my belt helping others (and missing my own child’s childhood) oh and that bachelors degree, the best work I can find that has any form of benefits that will hire me pays $14 per hour. Yes I should’ve learned a trade.
It’s pretty sad how people half my age with zero real world experience get the jobs...Now that I’m on this side of the figurative fence...wow... I hear all of this talk on the internet about how college is a joke, no longer needed, etc... yet down here in the “real world”, what I am witnessing firsthand....you’re not even considered for a decent job without having a Master’s degree... seems what matters the most nowadays is not experience but who has the most “fancy letters” behind their last name.
If you’re not at Master’s degree level and/or bilingual in Spanish, you’re screwed slinging onion rings or delivering pizzas. The message being sent to the younger generations is just stay at home and live off of welfare and have as many children as possible, with multiple fathers, and you’ll get more “free” goodies. Not sure why I’m venting or what my point is.
It’s just so very nice to see all of the kindness and positivity here on this thread. God Bless and Merry Christmas to every one of you beautiful souls.

Oh yes! The looks I get some days when I use my handicap parking placard. I’ve been battling this for over 20yrs now. It started as aches & pains, a little fatigue & has snowballed into multiple illnesses that effect every system in my body. I’ve been sleeping in a hospital bed for probably 5yrs now because of edema. Blah, blah, blah.. I could go on complaining forever. Lol!! As I hook up another bag of IV fluids up to my port. But today is a day I am thankful for. I have a home, food etc.. I have 3 teens who have become caring, wonderful young adults. Blessed!!
Thank you for your thoughts & prayers! Much love!
And YES THANK YOU MEZZO!!
