And it got me thinking.

The "I'm just doing what I'm told" and "This is just a paycheck" thing is prolific.

(to be fair, cyber doesn't pay amazingly)

So is a sense that everything is out of their control, despite their being an actual living and breathing part of the control system.

And there is a huge amount of fear of wrong think or taking in too much information. They're supposed to process it, not absorb it. They treat intel like a bomb.

It boils down to even if they downright know what they are doing is contributing to the direct demise and deaths of American citizens, of which they are one, they feel like they still need to do it because that is what they are being told to do. And they follow authority.

The nihilism is overwhelming, and you can see some of the "the world is dying, its too late to do anything, we're helpless so why bother" environmental doctrine from school coloring their every decision.

I get the feeling they would follow authority directly to their own deaths, as long as they could pretend it wasn't happening on the way there.

They've been placed in a position under something that has a lot of power (government) and feel powerless, even though they are supposed to be adults. They are ball-less.

So, what we end up with is a plethora of adult children doing the bidding of a very few who do not have their, or your, best interests in mind.

All I have to say is, there are no discernible heroes in that mess.

How have we gotten to a point where we have adults, in positions of responsibility, who have irreversibly cowed down to their masters rather than serving their country?

Re: Had an interesting talk with a cyber CIA trainee
After WWII there were a series of experiments done based on the US rejecting the "I was only following orders" mantra of many of the war criminals.

The results showed that a very large majority of subjects were willing to inflict what they believed to be fatal degrees of electrical shock when "ordered" to by a guy in a white lab coat holding a clipboard and acting in what you'd call a commanding manner.

The fact that this continues? It's not a surprise, it's a sad aspect of many people's "human nature". Those raised to obey, obey. Those raised to defer to authority defer.

In the case of cyber work? There's a million ways for these employees to rationalize or minimize the impact of their work to a degree that allows them to head back to work tomorrow.

Yeah. It has. Much of what I noticed in the conversation could be applied to a majority of people in the country, not just those being paid to act that way.

You're a self-pitying whiner who enjoys playing the "victim" at every opportunity. Everything wrong with your life, which is a lot, is someone else's fault. I have no patience with people who behave in that manner. I'd much appreciate you not attempting to derail a useful thread such as this one with your nonsense.

Go elsewhere if you're in need of a pity fix, weakling. And perhaps ask Santa for a spine for Christmas, you can use one.

I pray to $god to revoke all clearances of everyone near me and everyone in their circles at least 1 step (everyone of their contacts) and watch them+their contacts+contacts of contacts (NSA style) to see what theyll do...

Then revoke clearances of everyone who was near me in the past 15 years and see what theyll do... and clean my records and put "neutralized" there.

Now its time to fix your own organizations and maybe vet vet everyone again... from scratch, using a secondary vetting list. Once everyone is vetted for, activate it.

We need a lot of kids to check all of you... + everyone on a number of toxic sites will be put on a future quarantine list.

Must be similar stuff with the killer drone pilots. Not only are the flying weapons aptly named, but so are the armchair pilots. Death from 10,000 miles away doesn't seem to matter much---certainly nothing like killing one's opponent at close range.
