That's how Nazi Germany worked. That's how EVERY dictatorship works.

Make people afraid and keep them weak, dependent and in line.

And it got me thinking.

The "I'm just doing what I'm told" and "This is just a paycheck" thing is prolific.

(to be fair, cyber doesn't pay amazingly)

So is a sense that everything is out of their control, despite their being an actual living and breathing part of the control system.

And there is a huge amount of fear of wrong think or taking in too much information. They're supposed to process it, not absorb it. They treat intel like a bomb.

It boils down to even if they downright know what they are doing is contributing to the direct demise and deaths of American citizens, of which they are one, they feel like they still need to do it because that is what they are being told to do. And they follow authority.

The nihilism is overwhelming, and you can see some of the "the world is dying, its too late to do anything, we're helpless so why bother" environmental doctrine from school coloring their every decision.

I get the feeling they would follow authority directly to their own deaths, as long as they could pretend it wasn't happening on the way there.

They've been placed in a position under something that has a lot of power (government) and feel powerless, even though they are supposed to be adults. They are ball-less.

So, what we end up with is a plethora of adult children doing the bidding of a very few who do not have their, or your, best interests in mind.

All I have to say is, there are no discernible heroes in that mess.

How have we gotten to a point where we have adults, in positions of responsibility, who have irreversibly cowed down to their masters rather than serving their country?

Re: Had an interesting talk with a cyber CIA trainee
I think what terrifies me the most is that they do feel so much like powerless children.

A country can't be run by one adult. You need many.
 Quoting: TlvmmCpoft

The American character has changed since the end of WW2. I don't know if it can be changed back. It used to be that children aspired to be adults. Now adults aspire to be children. You can see it in their faces, the sheer immaturity, the unwillingness or inability to consider any need but their own, the inability to see beyond their own life span to think that they are creating for future generations. That they, in fact, can create the future.

This is a SPIRITUAL SICKNESS. The answer is in religion.

Two things, in a nutshell.

Compartmentalization.

Plausible deniability.

These are being used in the US government like a plague.

It will end up destroying the Republic.

The high level bureaucrats of the US government have basically declared themselves a 4th branch of government.

Haven't you watched The Report? It's explicitly stated there.

Learned helplessness
[link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

Brain is a funny thing... and its ability to "learn" can be as much its doom as its boon.

People are literally subjected to emotional torture (by the so-called "state", or "civilization", or "education") from the moment they're born, and their brains eventually "learn" (in effect, become "programmed") to think: "That's just how things are, and I can do nothing about it."

It's exactly the same method employed for training wild animals.

... which is why "Switzerland" (the part of it under the ground) coming up with the idea to use passports for branding their livestock (the so-called "citizens") makes perfect sense.

After all, animus revertendi (the legal bases for passports of all the countries in the world) means, quite literally:

"(this) animal (is) to be returned (to its rightful owner)"

The fact that the animals in question (passport holders) have "chosen" (been trained) to brand themselves as animals that are to be returned to their rightful owners (the so-called "states") changes nothing.

They (we) are still animals with owners... as opposed to "animals of the wild", which is another legal concept, also worth looking up.

It's the legal bases for killing other people... ah, my bad... other animals... and stealing their properties... which, in legal sense, is neither Stealing, nor Property, since those are "animals of the wild", and thus: free-for-all.

True, "citizens" are talking, only seemingly reasonable and intelligent animals, but still animals.

The reality of the situation, therefore, truly is that "that's just how things are", because...

When was the last time you tried to convince a bunch of monkeys to start a rebellion against Zoo management?

Give it try, and then let me know how it went.

I already have a pretty good idea of all the frustration you're going to put yourself through... and all for nothing.

Such attempts never work... which, "coincidentally", is what I've been trying to prove from day 1.

Giving an undeniable, both mathematical and empirical proof of the Theory of Lost Causes is going to cut the future complete wastes of time by several orders of magnitude.

it's too bad

America elected Donald Trump to do something about it

instead he just kept printing money continuing to piss off China and all the other countries forced to use the US dollar as reserve currency while implementing all the same policices and pretending there's no fraud going on

signing the most insane executive orders and not exposing a single bit of fraud, only pretending he's going to expose one thing involving him, because apparently he's the only US citizen that has rights anymore because he was a billionaire that became president

Must be similar stuff with the killer drone pilots. Not only are the flying weapons aptly named, but so are the armchair pilots.
 Quoting: MarPep

Indeed... killer drone-pilots, as in -- human drones who are both pilots and killers.

It's rather interesting that, when people hear the phrase "killer drone pilots" they, never, ever associate the word drone with the pilot. They always think of the weapon itself.

It is literally unthinkable to even consider something that looks exactly like a human being as an actual (biological) drone.

That damn failure of imagination (of what the ultimate bio-technology can, and indeed does look like) strikes again!

But I think you are right, it goes further into whether restricted thinking that can surely impede real intel analysis.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73848670

In truth, that, the very thing you pointed out, is a flaw (the biggest one, at that) in the design of that whole (CIA, and beyond) system.

It's an exploit that can be used against it (CIA... and beyond), and I've been having the fun of my life exploiting it like there's no tomorrow... which there isn't, by the way, no tomorrow for anyone on this planet.

Ask the CIA bosses!

... oh, wait... <slaps himself on the forehead> silly me... you can't ask them THAT! Giving THAT answer would literally collapse the whole system in less than a day!

See how easy it is to exploit that flaw?

And the beauty of it is that that exact flaw is so fundamental to the whole system that they couldn't get rid of it even if they wanted to!

(which they don't want to, because... collapse of the whole system in less than a day, remember?)
