Why do astronauts report they do not see stars?

oh really? I've talked to astronauts and they do see stars but they have to be dark adapted. If they're just in the spacecraft during the day with the cabin lights on that's not really going to happen. The Apollo astronauts all navigated to and from the moon using the stars to orient the spacecraft. some of them even used an eye patch to keep one eye dark adapted so that they could easily see the stars when they went up to the scanning telescope to align the spacecraft.
