you can easily get 100+ lumen per watt leds at the hardware shop today. so 140 is not "twice as efficient" as 100+!

they get hot as fuck... not a great light color and have a startup time too.

Right, but LED is toxic mercury filled garbage emitting a toxic light spectrum. Perfect for harming you. Incandescent is harmless.

The 6000K light that the plasma bulbs produce includes a lot of eye-damaging UV light. Streetlight, building exterior and vehicle headlight with such light that is similar to that produced by the sun completely throws off human and animal circadian rhythms. That means that this type of light used after sunset creates insomnia, and therefore lowers waking productivity the next day of all humans exposed to it.

Also the extreme brightness and focus of the light creates pain in the eye. And the eye pupils must suddenly close tightly to avert damage and prevent "deer in the headlights" confusion in the person subjected to it. This prevents the natural eye pupil dilation that normally occurs in the evening and at night. So any area not in the direct beam of the extremely bright, dazzling artificial 6000K light looks pitch black.

These types of bulbs are a disaster, unless proper diffuser screens are developed to scatter the light and to also adjust it to a more natural light color more closely resembling incandescent light and the similar fire light that our eyes evolved to adjust to.

no yore thinking of cfl or fluoro lights. leds don't have mercury in them. as for a "toxic light spectrum" it seems very unlikely that leds can emit "poisonous light rays".

A) CHECK the cost, and

B) NOT ready for the retail market; maybe 5 years, MAYBE 10 or more.

Marketing Strategy Subterfuge?

I'm thinking the Plasma Light is measuring only the Radio Frequency Power applied to the Bulb.

The measurement may not include the power being consumed by the power supply and amplifier.

High Voltage RF Generators are notoriously inefficient, finicky, and subject to blow-out, feedback, parasitic energy anomalies.

I hope it works, but I would not hold my breath.

Plasma lights have seemed kind of like the nation of Brazil: it's the Country Of The Future and always will be. It must have been around 1990 that High Times first ran a story about them. It will be incredible if they finally become available.
