IIRC burning the flag was considered by the SC to be Free Speech. I can't believe this happened right here in the United States.

There's a HUGE difference between killing a man just because he's Gay [BTW: it was the Matthew Shepard case that got the Hate crime law passed] and burning a piece of cloth that isn't even an official flag of a soverign nation!
